College of Charleston coach Chris Mack accepts coaching job at South Florida

College of Charleston men's basketball coach Chris Mack has accepted the head coaching position at the University of South Florida, the school announced March 25.

Mack led the program to back-to-back 20-win seasons — compiling a 45-20 overall record — but was unable to get the Cougars back into the NCAA Tournament after going to the Big Dance the two previous years under former coach Pat Kelsey.

"We are grateful for Chris and his leadership the past two seasons at the helm of our men's basketball program. We wish him, Christi and their family nothing but the best of their next journey," said College of Charleston athletic director Matt Roberts. "The College of Charleston is a top 10 program all-time in Division I winning percentage with an unmatched history and position in the national landscape. We are committed to continuing that legacy of excellence on and off the court."

College of Charleston confirms coach Robin Harmony leaving for Pitt after historic season

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — College of Charleston women’s basketball coach Robin Harmony is leaving the program after a record-breaking season to become the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh, the school announced.

Harmony guided Charleston to a historic 2025-26 campaign, earning Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year honors while leading the Cougars to their first conference championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance in Division I history. The team finished 27-6 overall.

The Cougars also set multiple program milestones under Harmony this season, including their best start to a season at 6-0 and best start to conference play at 12-0.

“We are grateful for the vision and success Robin brought to the College of Charleston,” athletic director Matt Roberts said in a statement. “The 2025-26 season was the culmination of those efforts. We are grateful for all Robin gave to the Charleston community and wish her nothing but success in Pittsburgh.”

That is what happens when you win. Pretty common in this league, or used to be anyhow. We have had a lot of good coaches come through. USF is interesting though

Akron basketball coach John Groce emerges as leader in Charleston coach search

https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/akron-...12895.html

The Akron Zips men's basketball team could soon enter a new era because ESPN reported on March 28 coach John Groce has emerged as the top target in Charleston's head coaching search.

The report by ESPN's Jeff Borzello also states a hire is not done and steps remain for Groce and Charleston in the next 24 hours, but there is mutual interest between the two sides.

In nine seasons at the helm of Akron, Groce has compiled a record of 197-94, including 114-50 in the Mid-American Conference. He is ranked third in program history for most wins, trailing only Akron native Keith Dambrot (305-139 from 2005-17) and Russell Beichly (288-144 from 1941-59).

Different style of play for sure. But yes a great hire for them.

Also sounds like CofC lowered Mack's buyout for USF from 1.5M to 1.3M. In turn CofC gets a future home and home with USF. So that is a good get for them, though they way those typically go CofC wont see that home game for like 4 or 5 years, if they see it (doesnt get bought out later)

I wonder how much of an impact will this hire have in regards to the CAA getting 2 teams in the NCAA tournament?

RE: College of Charleston Lost both Basketball Coaches
Minimal impact. The only way the league will charge for multiple bids is for the schools to improve scheduling and up the SOS's. Winning high rated games is part of that, but generally it starts with getting opportunities to begin with. A challenge that keeps getting harder since neutral tournaments have pretty well segregated mids and power teams these days. On top of that you have to win a lot of games with only 2-3 losses at most in conference. The league raised the bottom better this past season, but the teams have to keep that up and push further to isolate our team teams and give them a chance. (That was the case in the older days when we periodically got multiple bids)

Also sounds like they got a steal with Groce. He is getting the same pay as he was already getting at Akron, just with more escalator clauses to go up quickly with guaranteed extensions. Sure seems like he was stuck at Akron and needed a higher profile program to help springboard him forward

The folks at Akron do not believe CofC is a higher profile conference lol.

Campbell loses its HC after one season.

Ouch!

A new twist to this era in college sports. Campbell coach John Andrzejek resigns after one year and says "there are no pathways that the institution will support to fund the program appropriately moving forward."
