RE: The SAVE Act - 2026 is the time to apply pressure on Thune and the filibuster
This is one thing it is okay to bump! "Just don't bump no more with no big fat woman!"
If Congress passes the Protect College Sports Act and fails to pass this one, they will have screwed up twice! But we all know the alternate meaning of the word "Congress" and it is absolutely Charlie Foxtrot up there the vast majority of the time! I swear the only time I feel comfortable about Congress is when they are on a break.

RE: The SAVE Act - 2026 is the time to apply pressure on Thune and the filibuster
yesterday (on Hannity's radio show whilst in the field), I caught a clip from Tubby and Lee how about why it needs to hit the floor ... you can go find it if'n ya wanna ... the gist of the argument was how votes CAN change if allowed...
#groverII has 'em by the cods on this 'host(il)(ag)e takeover ... we'll see if he holds firm...
Quote:Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said Tuesday his conference does not have enough votes to bypass the filibuster to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act.
“The only way you can get … this done is to nuke the legislative filibuster, and that is not something that we have anywhere close to the votes to do,” Thune told host Bret Baier on Fox News’s “Special Report.”
President Trump has made the SAVE America Act one of his top legislative priorities for months and has called on GOP senators to scrap the regular filibuster — the 60-vote threshold to pass most legislation in the upper chamber — in order to pass it.
The SAVE America Act proposes requiring Americans to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. The House passed the bill in February, but it has stalled in the Senate over the unwillingness from some Republicans to change filibuster rules.
In recent days, Trump has tied the SAVE America Act to another of his priorities, the extension of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
The latter provision, which provides the federal government with the ability to conduct warrantless surveillance of foreign nationals, lapsed last week amid outrage from Democrats about Trump tapping Bill Pulte to serve as acting director of national intelligence.
The president said Wednesday he is pausing the confirmation process for federal prosecutor Jay Clayton’s nomination to be the director until Congress approves FISA and the voting bill. Thune’s Fox News interview occurred before Trump’s announcement.
“I will not approve FISA without THE SAVE AMERICA ACT going along with it,” Trump wrote Wednesday on Truth Social.

There's a 10 day clock that started at some point (I'm not exactly sure what day that would be) where some resolution to this will happen. There's no him sitting on this as a threat for months. The only real question here that's hard for me to figure out is would he be able to sit on it for 10 days and it fall under the rules for a pocket veto? I'm fairly certain though it wouldn't actually be possible unless the Congress intentionally fumbles the ball/wants it to die that way.

10 days
If Congress is in session and he does not sign it becomes law
If Congress is not in session and he does not sign it is pocket vetoed
Since Congress is never out of session anymore he has to veto it to stop it from becoming law
If everyone voted the same, Congress has enough votes to override veto as well
As a fan of election integrity i like him canceling the pomp and circumstance that politicians love in order to make a point, but realistically the Senate is not going to be moved by this

In theory Congress is supposed to be out of session after July 3rd, so depending on when that clock started there is a way for them to be out of session within a 10 day window since Sunday's are excluded from the 10 days. However, upon more googling all congress has to do is just have some authorized agents in place to "receive" any veto to negate any ability to use a pocket veto. At this point you'd have to actually be either completely incompetent or actively want a pocket veto for it to occur. So basically this is performative, but I still can appreciate him doing it and making his own people look bad to prove a point and try to get what he wants.

regardless, it would then pass on to the 'next' one they wanted signed...

I disagree. What they fear is nuking the filibuster, which is a tool more useful to the party that doesn't actually want the government to do things. The only things the establishment GOP want to do are tax cuts and judges, things you can do with 51 votes already. The last thing they want is for the filibuster to be gone and the next time the Dems get a trifecta they pass a bunch of bills with 51 votes giving out "MUH FREE STUFF." Sure, in theory they can just use the simple 51 vote majority to get ride of said free stuff later, but it's a lot less popular to take "FREE STUFF away after people have gotten it than stopping them from getting it in the first place.
RE: The SAVE Act - 2026 is the time to apply pressure on Thune and the filibuster
Update - of course there is an extra layer - the bill may not have been presented to the President yet and thus the 10 day clock may not have started. Apparently the Speaker is the one who gets to determine when it's presented to the President

This is the most important bill in our lifetimes, besides the civil rights act that Republicans had no issues within its party about passing. Every course correcting and History making bill has been passed by republicans. No reason to balk now.
Shoving it into a recon bill is essentially killing the filibuster, as it's obviously outside the rules of reconciliation and doing that just forever opens the door to shoving anything in recon bills going forward whether it's connected to the budget or not. Trump is actually correct in just saying you have to nuke the filibuster to pass it, because all work arounds are de-facto nuking it and will be treated as such.

They could force an old school filibuster - but they do not want to yield the floor the Democrats

addressed the filibuster in the very first post...
Quote:this is what I and others have been pining for over the years ... IMO, this is worth nuking the filibuster to pass through the senate ... it's time for Thune to grow a sac, or remove him from leadership ... it's now or never time!!!
what I disagree with is your reasoning ... they know if the donks ever regain control, they're nukin' it ... therefore, if you really want to fight for the people and the republic, you can't ignore an 85% mandate and then vote against b/c of muh bs...
that's the real issue ... WHY?!?
it's littered throughout the thread ... that's why I started this BEFORE it became a hot issue ... I couldn't get Failla to address it before the '24 election ... now that fat fkr won't shut up about it ... funny how that shite works...
this and muh mail-it-inns are all I give two fks about when it comes to voting and politics...
pass this, and then I'll be all ears when discussing best method solutions ... until then, one may as well piss in the wind to quench and bathe to save a 'step' when dealing with congressional issues...
