DNC Workers Issued Directive That Put End to COVID-Era Rules and Hilarity Quickly Ens
Quote:The Democratic National Committee apparently finally accepted that the pandemic is over and gave its workers a 60-day notice to get back to the office in person five days a week. Staffers promptly – and hilariously – went into full meltdown mode.

During an all-staff meeting on Wednesday, DNC Chairman Ken Martin said that the National Democratic Party would need those based in Washington, D.C., to return to the office for in-person work starting in February, ahead of the midterms. The hope is that such a move could change the balance of Congress and put a kibosh on President Donald Trump's MAGA agenda.

Yes, you read that correctly. The new order didn't make the directive start on December 1 or even after the first part of the year in January 2026. No, they told them that by February 1, they would need to be back in the office.

The New York Post reported on the call:

During the announcement, Martin caveated that DNC workers would have flexibility for family, medical, and other personal matters that warranted remote work, a DNC official told The Post.

Martin argued that Democrats had momentum after the off-year elections last week and contended that having staff work together is conducive to better brainstorming and allows the party to make time-sensitive decisions quickly, the source claimed.

The DNC boss also impressed upon staff that the 2025 off-year election cycle is different than the 2026 midterm elections, in which states and the Democratic party will lean on the DNC more for support.

As you can expect, workers weren't happy.

Remote workers on the Zoom call reportedly hit the thumbs down emojis during the meeting, with some suggesting that they worked from home during the 2020 election and won, so why couldn't they do it again in 2028?

"It was shocking to see the DNC chair disregard staff's valid concerns on today's team call," the DNC staff union leadership said in a statement to the New York Times.

"DNC staff worked extremely hard to support historic wins for Democrats up and down the ballot last Tuesday, and this change feels especially callous considering the current economic conditions created by the Trump administration," the statement added.

Some Democratic operatives mocked those who were up in arms.

"Everyone should work a traditional campaign before doing a PAC/committee," Monica Venzke, House communications director at the liberal American Bridge 21st Century super PAC, argued.

"If you think democracy is on the line – working in the office is not a big ask. And there are plenty of other people willing to step up. Get yourselves together, people," Neera Tanden, who was a senior adviser to former President Joe Biden, jabbed on X in response to the controversy.

Our sister site Townhall.com pointed out that even some Democrats reacted to the proposal.

Democratic Representative Ritchie Torres of New York [NY-15] mocked the proposal, questioning how blue-collar Americans might perceive white-collar staffers calling for reduced hours and sarcastically suggesting a "0-hour workweek."

And as you can imagine, those on the right had some fun too.

"DNC staffers are melting down after being told they actually have to show up to work again for the first time in five years," National Republican Congressional Committee press secretary Mike Marinella swiped.

"This is hilarious. DNC staffers are 'shocked' at being expected to show up to work during a midterm campaign cycle," Republican National Committee press secretary Kiersten Pels mused. "Is this a political committee or a daycare?"

Basically, all over the country, remote work due to the pandemic ended years ago. It's hilarious that the staffers get to keep this going until February of next year – because of course they do.

It is funny that they get called back - but it also tacitly admits that Trump was right to have government workers come in person.

I thought it was only the RNC that was in disarray - spending gobs of money on flower arrangements, limousines, and makeovers for Ronna Romney McDaniel. I thought the DNC was more focused on winning elections.

Looks like the leadership of both parties is not so hot. I think bureaucracy breeds such laxness, whether it is the government or private entities.

Until recently I worked in a fortune 100 company.

Post covid - they announced a soft 2 day per week onsite. It was really soft. There were approximately 4,200 people assigned to the building. I am part of a group who gets daily attendance. I never once saw a report with more than 900 people except the 2 times the CEO held an all employee meeting (usually a quarterly exercise) That was 2022-2023. In late 2023 the company mandated 2 days a week on site NOT including Friday - the building was deemed closed other than necessary personnel for maintenance and critical business functions.

The company intranet complaining was an absolute embarrassment to read. Almost 1,000 posts complaining about 2 days a week. It was like a parent took away a lollipop. There was one person/post in particular that still stands out to this day...

She was hired post covid and probably spent 1 day in the office to get her badge etc.... She was also in her 20's so probably her first adult job out of school. Her post stated that it was unfair that she had to commute into work as it took 20-25 minutes each way, and she asked (seriously) if that time would be compensated AND if she would get a mileage reimbursement for the commute. Before i left in early 2024, I noted she was no longer in the company directory.

I still talk to my former colleagues there and the company went to 4 days per week mandatory if you live within 30 miles and 3 days for the rest. The outrage from that one was pretty bad as well from what I gather.

These f-ing people don't seem to understand that having a job is an earned privilege, not a god given right. SMMFH
