RE: NEC Basketball
Not strictly basketball related, but Stonehill is planning a $50 million athletics center with basketball and hockey arenas. Looks to be a nice upgrade for their programs.

NEC Conference basketball schedules announced. Saturday January 2 is the beginning of the conference slate. Now, if we can just get those non cons announced!

Other news, some conference games may move from a Thursday/Saturday format to Wednesday/Saturday to better accommodate travel and/or television opportunities.

Also, Le Moyne is now a full D1 member, while Mercyhurst and New Haven are not. Both MU and UNH are both eligible for compete in the conference tournaments, though the conference tournament format will remain 8 teams.

RE: NEC Basketball
While impatiently waiting for Chicago State to release their roster (ahem), I was checking out rosters for the rest of the conference.

To my surprise, Ryan and Matt Bewley are now Juniors for LIU. Also on the Sharks roster is former Cougar Dashawn Jean-Charles. That makes about 5 Floridians at LIU, even though Gerald Gillion is long gone, his brother Brionne Gillion is on the LIU staff and successfully working the Gillion family’s deep Florida connections.

The Bewleys had just OK careers at Daytona State. They can likely be decent NEC players, but one was either hurt or not playing a decent amount of time at DSC. The other was mostly a starter, but was 6th or 7th on the team in minutes, and was also either hurt (or just not playing) the last part of the season. The NBA predictions have mostly been quashed by now.

Daytona State was good at 27-6, but didn’t make it out of the second round of the NJCAA tournament. And neither Bewley was all conference, juco all American etc.
