So he died knowing that Trump had completely triumphed in the end, that his daughter Liz had thrown away a promising political career out of anger and spite, and that her efforts to destroy Trump had utterly failed. I wonder if he was ever able to admit that, even to himself.
Owl#s once observed that, as Chief of Staff to President Ford, Dick Cheney helped set the stage for Jimmy Carter. As Defense Secretary to Bush/41, Cheney helped set the stage for Bill Clinton. And as VP under Bush/43, Cheney helped set the stage for Barack Obama. That’s quite the hat-trick within one career. But I’ve never heard any Democrats thank him for it, LOL.
Many moons ago (1989), Dick Cheney was the Congressman from Wyoming when Bush/41 nominated a retired GOP Senator (John Tower) to be SecDef. Not the guy who would’ve been at the top of my list, but still a mainstream, consensus choice. For reasons that I never quite understood, Senate Dems chose to draw a line against their former colleague and staged a rather ugly scene, eventually defeating the nomination on the floor of the Senate. Good for them (I guess?) except that Bush/41 then had to pick a replacement, and suddenly Dick Cheney became a major national figure. And suddenly Newt Gingrich was picked to be Cheney’s replacement as a House GOP leader.
The law of unintended consequences, it’s a real b¡tch!

I’d add John McCain and Mitt Romney as part of the evolution from moving people from Neoconservatism to Trumpism, but your points still stand with Bush/Cheney. Most of the Never Trump Republicans are the old neoconservatives.
I have had this discussion with Dems many times, who tend to bunch all the wings of the Republican Party into one piece. Neoconservatism is just big government progressive politics, they just allocate the tax payer dollars in different ways than left wing professives do.
This is why you see Dems post memes today about how they miss the days of George Bush when we “all got along”.
C'mon guys, we criticize the Commies for blasting Charlie in his death but y'all are doing the same thing to Cheney. What's the use of blasting him like that, he'll pay for his sins and that's all that can happen. I know the comparison with him and Charlie are not alike but still we're acting as bad as the Demonics.
I didn't like him either but I won't spit in his grave...and I couldn't change a thing while he lived so...

I really admired Cheney. I respected W for not picking a VP who was dumber than him. However, I was disappointed in the Forever wars that he advocated. I fear that led to way to Barrack Hussein and the emergence of the Prog Filth. Cheney sort of blew it. Godspeed to him

How old was he anyway?
it's a bbs, ollie ... I don't believe a soul said a word about spittin' or pissin' on his grave, amigo...
however, it's fair to bring up his track record in memoriam ... he was a public figure ... that's why the criticism is deserved...

Their war against Tower was kind of inexplicable. Maybe they were mad at him for turning Texas Republican. Until Bill Clements was governor in 1978, John Tower in the special 1961 election to replace LBJ was the only Republican elected statewide since Reconstruction.
He DID help save us from Al Gore.
