Unfortunately this is the time we live in.
I friend of my family, who teaches at a medical school, recently told how he was showing pictures and video of severe trauma during a lecture. One video he showed was of the JFK assassination. Several students complained because they didn't want to see that before ten in the morning. Those morons don't realize that severe trauma happens at all hours.

Our friend was a skilled surgeon until an accident cut the tendons in one of his hands. So he became a teacher.

RE: Unfortunately this is the time we live in.
Today's kids, tsk tsk tsk. That is something I recall hearing my grandfather say. That's what I recall my dad saying. I'm saying it now. My son is even expressing it. Furthermore, my 22-year-old youngest grandson, who is a wonderful young man, is expressing this sentiment about many of his peers.

By working hard, setting goals, and adhering to a clear plan to reach his objectives, my grandson is taking charge of his destiny and generating favorable opportunities for himself. He also maintains a healthy work-life balance that permits him to engage in his hobbies. Most significantly, he's stayed single and isn't in a rush to settle into a relationship or start a family. I'm envious.

This is not ALL students. It is "several" students. i.e. a very small majority.

A few students have always felt this way.

The difference today is that today's top students don't respect their teacher as automatically as they used to. They've received so much positive reinforcement at every point in their life that they think that by getting good grades in high school, they have already achieved something. So they're a lot more willing to complain when they see/hear something they don't like.

This is different from the changes in non-top students. Medium-quality and low-quality students have withdrawn from classroom participation. All they want to do is avoid getting noticed so that their mistakes don't end up getting displayed on social media for the whole world to see forever.
