They ensure our skies are safe, our veterans receive care, our borders are protected, and our food is inspected. They come from every political background and every corner of this nation. What unites them is a simple belief: that service to country is honorable work," Kelley added in the statement.

Although the AFGE president did not call out Democrats specifically, Senate Democrats have been opposed to passing a clean CR since the beginning of the shutdown and have instead proposed their own CR with other policy provisions, including some that will increase the federal funding going to cover the healthcare expenses of illegal immigrants in the country.

The path forward for Congress, Kelley said, is to "reopen the government immediately under a clean continuing resolution that allows continued debate on larger issues" as well as "ensure back pay for every single employee who has served or been forced to stay home through no fault of their own."

"Work together on a bipartisan basis to address important policy matters like addressing rising costs and fixing the broken appropriations process. None of these steps favor one political side over another. They favor the American people – who expect stability from their government and responsibility from their leaders," the union president added.

Last week, Democrats in the Senate also voted against paying those employees in the federal government who are required to work without pay when the government shuts down, including military members as well as air traffic controllers.

I personally would not award “full back pay” to every federal employee. I’d be willing to consider that on a case-by-case basis, but it would probably be something 1/2 of that, if it were up to me.

But I have little doubt that the GOP will cave on that point.

Anyway, other pro-Dem. pressure groups will begin issuing their own statements in the next 2-3 days, and this will be over by Nov 6 or 7 at the latest.

My wife didn't get paid Friday. EVERYONE in the Federal Building where she works knows exactly who is at fault because of it. DEMOCRATS.

Considering this union called out the Dems for the shutdown, it's clear that the Democrats grossly overplayed their hand and will be seen as the ones responsible for the shutdown. Corporate media cannot hide this from regular people like it used to for decades past to help the Democrat Party. Social media is too powerful.

I ran into a Yankee Dem from NY and had an interesting conversation with this enlightened being.

He is a huge Chuck Schumer guy.

But he was civil.

His only point was that there was some money that the government took in during the shutdown that was going towards other things and not the American people so in act, this became the Republicans fault.

I said so the Dems made sure the military got paid? No.
So the Dems made sure WIC got funded? No.

The Dems want a clean CR? Of course.. I said they've had one for several weeks... But won't vote to approve it, why?

He couldn't give an answer. I reminded him of the comment of American suffering are the Dems only leverage.. He agreed, I said an you think that's right and makes the Republicans look bad? Again fumbled with words.

It's like the kid that Trump had in the meme that had poop dumped on him and he claimed no Dems ever compared Republicans to Nazis and when the truth was presented it was like the first time he heard it and was shocked.
