I’ve got no dog in this fight, but based on the “little research” I did, Seems you’re both correct.

34.6 Milly was Tarleton’s 2025 Athletics budget.

They’ve kicked that up to 45 Milly for the 2026-27 academic yr.in an effort to position themselves for a jump to FBS.

As TX is pretty saturated at the FBS level, I kinda hope they stay where they are. Don’t blame ‘em for wanting to make the move though.

I really don’t like the PAC’s overall number of members. Personally, I’d like to see 12 at a minimum. But I don’t see where these additional members would come from, the cost of jumping conference to conference is starting to become cost prohibitive. Even the Belt has raised the cost of its exit fees.
I keep scratching my head every time someone throws Georgia State out there. I mean, why? Someone give me a solid argument for that because I don't see it.
We, TXST, are already a stretch east. Now people want to go all the way to the East coast?

Wow....Georgia State? I have no idea of how or why that would work in the present. Ok...if the Pac 12 lost say 3 to 4 teams suddenly...then as a matter of conference survival....then anything is possible.

I would think that New Mexico State,Sac State and then Sam Houston State (Tarleton State in there as well) would be way more likely before that hypothetical scenario of Georgia State. But then again it would depend on what's happening with conference realignment and trickle down effects on the Pac 12.

Dude . . . Who are you, and why are you posting this? The PAC s goal is to be the Biggest Midget among the G6. How would adding NMSU and a handful of FCS programs accomplish that?

The PAC needs well established FBS programs . . . a Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, North TX, UNLV

FCS call ups aren’t going to move the needle.

RE: How the Pac-12 will look after realignment in 2026
I agree that the Pac ideally needs FBS schools...I was speaking in terms of worst case scenario and if that was to happen why Tarleton State would be a possible option . And I've been a Pac 12 fan much longer than you (that actually doesn't matter). but I watched the pac8 become the Pac10 then to become the Pac 12 and then as a result....continue to make one strategic mistake after another (i.e. Pac12 network, focus on Olympic sports, etc.) and openly avoid adding Texas schools (Houston) plus refuse to add any religious based schools (BYU,SMU, TCU, etc.). And look where it got the Pac12...we are dealing with the current mess as a result.

Yes, I'm still irate over the lack of vision and fear that history will repeat itself unless the Texas option of schools is pursued. I still openly fear for the long term growth and viability of the Pac12 conference in its current format.

As do I. Egos destroyed the last rendition of the PAC, and I wouldn’t be surprised if egos burn this latest rendition.

One defections, and the PAC is no longer viable as a conference. Why any conference would want to operate on the precipice of non-viability makes no sense to me.

Washington St. and Oregon St. should have merged with the MW. Instead, they made the MW weaker, and are barely viable as an FBS conference. I don’t really trust the folks making decisions for the PAC.

I get the “worst case scenario,” but honestly, if the PAC has to go down that road, they’ve already lost.

In the meantime, I hope they can find at least 4 decent FBS programs to strengthen and make the conference more stable.

Time will tell.

Perhaps the next focus is getting the three Texas schools in to help out TXST and get a solid foothold in Texas. Then look at building more basketball schools in like Creighton/Wichita St. into the mix before 2031 blowup. Really doubt any AC school, who is getting a full share, will be interested and just focus on getting the B12/ACC invite in 2031. Unless a school like UConn gets in Football only can change a lot of things, especially if they do a agreement for their BB program to schedule OOC games with PAC12 teams.

RE: How the Pac-12 will look after realignment in 2026
As the PAC has already “stepped” into TX, sorta speak, I think the addition of 1 or 2 more TX teams makes sense. Provided it’s the right TX programs
(FBS not FCS call ups).

Now, that said …. I doubt it happens. The egos to our West, while full of bluster, seem to lack vision.

In any event, I hope they find a way to shore up numbers with quality additions. Running long term at 8 is foolish, IMHO.
