Is this supposed to mean anything?
Not sure but I got it from President at UT Tyler about their football program or should I say lack thereof
I can say with most certainty I don’t appreciate criticism of our football program from some one who doesn’t have a dog in the fight
1) A fan of football.
2) A member of the conference.
3) That's your issue.
Not really an issue. I get TSU has some over zealous posters that can get under your skin.
I like rubbing sportscaster because he thinks UT Arlington should be in a better conference. That being said, brother better than you needs a down to earth reality check ever now and then.
I don’t take anything personal on here and would hope no one else does either. I know it’s no fun having to endure every fall with no football team especially when you see sister schools like UTRGV and UTPB getting programs started.
Btw, sportscaster I read your post and two of the three players I know were mentioned. Great write up
That don't get under my skin, but they do come off as pompous, arrogant or petty. I will usually put that in play pretty quick. They won't change, I get it, but I will call it out. I am fairly objective and will call balls and strikes.
This started because some Tarleton folks are getting pretty cocky and thinking the rest of the conference really cares about playing them. They are not everyone's Super Bowl. They are a team that some teams want to beat, but regional rivalries are their Super Bowl. It does help that ACU and Tarleton will be playing for a championship and are regional rivals. It will be a big game, but it won't be either's Super Bowl. Both have designs for a much bigger season with games into December.
If, as stated, SUU was looking at Tarleton as their Super Bowl because they needed the win for a playoff run, then by reason, it isn't their Super Bowl because they need more wins. As it is, their season is done and the lone remaining game they care about is Utah Tech.
UTA has been DI since 1971, the first in the Southland. The entire SLC became DI for the 1975 season. From then until the mid-2000's, UTA's conference peers were DI schools. In the mid-2000's, the SLC started going to the DII's ranks for members. That started UTA's idea into looking at a different conference. They joined the WAC with schools like Utah State, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Idaho, etc. Seattle was an outlier in that they just completed their transitionary period to DI, but had decades of prior DI history before they joined the NAIA in 1980. UTA then moved to the SBC which has never had a DI-transitionary school.
We also quite frequently mention our lack of football is the reason for our current pitfalls. All else equal, if we had a team, we'd be in the SBC at a minimum. Our peers in UNT, UTSA and Texas State, whom we have winning records in many sports each, have used their football teams to place their entire Athletics Department on the doorstep of the P4. We are now back to needing DII schools for survival. That is one of many reasons we are happy to see Little Rock join.
And yes it does suck to see those schools or Texas Wesleyan, Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M-Texarkana figure it out and we can't. I still root for the Vaqueros fairly often.
Thanks for the kudos. It is a labor of love for sure. A connection to a past that shows we can do it if we wish. That 1986 team would have been amazing.
