Would MLB let the White Sox leave Chicago?
The White Sox have played on the south side for over 120 years, but if they couldn’t get a stadium deal done, would the league permit them to be relocated?

If the White Sox were to leave, where would they go? I doubt the league would want them in Portland or Salt Lake as they’d throw the divisions off (they could swap with one of the Texas clubs).

Nashville would be the logical choice

But White Sox owner jerry Reisndorf has already worked out a deal that the white Sox will be sold to Justin Ishbia when Reinsdorf gives up control the team no earlier than 2029 and no later than 2034. Which is confusing to me.

Reinsdorf has also had discussions with the Nashville mayor about the White Sox moving to Nashville if the Sox don't get a new stadium in Chicago. Illinois governor Pritzker says the state is not going to use any public funds to finance a new Sox stadium.

I think Salt Lake is a guarantee and it’s either Carolina or Nashville. Moving the White Sox would fix that.

MLB seems hellbent on a geographic realignment. Right now with 30 teams, the Chicago teams would be in separate conferences anyway, the Sox moving West would cement them there. My guess is MLB would split the Texas teams

SEA, SF, LAD, LAA, SD
LV, AZ, CO, SLC (White Sox), TEX
KC, Cubs, STL, MIL, MN

HOU, ATL, MIA, TB, WAS
CLE, PIT, DET, TOR, CIN
PHI, BAL, NYY, NYM, BOS

When MLB inevitably expands to 32, they'll move Texas to the East assuming it's Portland and Nashville. If they get two Eastern teams then Houston goes to the West.

For a few years now, I've believed the White Sox will relocate to Nashville in the early 2030s. Baseball isn't as popular here as it once was, and the Cubs have a permanent stranglehold on the market that's never going to let up. The wealth/money in the Chicago market (both city and suburbs) is just not where the White Sox fan base is located.

Never thought I would agree with Pritzker, but I do here. Public funding should not be used for sports teams that are making billions of dollars. Let the owners come up with the financing - don't push it on the taxpayers.

Nashville or even Indianapolis seem like places where the White Sox could go and not disrupt the divisional structure
