No actually in 2022 when Putin figured out we had a rotted brain coward named Biden who turned a withdrawal into a Chinese Fire drill getting soldiers killed in the pandemonium.
Still disgusted with that fool.
Biden is still chasing those ghosts of his childhood called White Supremacists. They are a monumental threat to our democracy in case you haven’t heard.

Why do you think Putin is the wealthiest person in the world?
It’s not being done by battling globaphobes?

Putin is now the one playing with WW3.
rasPutin never got a chance to steal our money but his oligarchs sure as hell have and in Ukraine no doubt. But I hope Trump will develop an equally bad relationship with him. Seems like it’s brewing.
"Trump has moved TWO Ohio Class boomers into position to strike Russia.
Just ONE of these subs is capable of nuking 160 cities before it has to head back for a weapons refill, lol.
Surely the Russians didn't miss that Trump replaced Biden, right? :)"
This statement stayed in my mind. Are you sure it's 160 and not 16? How can a little ol' submarine carry so many of those missiles is my question. 16 is still quite a bit of missiles and would do some damage.

Each missile has multiple warheads. 20 Trident missiles with 8 warheads on each missile.

And on top of all that, our missiles will work.
The Ukrainians put a real hurt on Russian nuclear air power with their Spider-Man op. The good lord put a hurting on their pacific nuclear sub fleet with an earthquake followed by a sunami followed by a volcanic eruption. Their nuclear capable missiles have had little success getting airborne as of late, one fired into Ukraine with inert warheads, one blowing up on launch and one blowing up being fueled in an attempt to intimidate the west.
Trump seems to be getting tired of rasPutin’s games. Now he needs to understand that rasPutin is in real jeopardy of losing his life. He can’t stop now. Now is the time for maximum pressure.

Yep. I spent many years working with the DOD in naval shipyards, and consequently some time in those boomers. Those things are intimidating, even on the inside.
And calling those things missiles is really a misnomer. They are really stacked bombs sitting on top of each other in a metal delivery tube.
Think of them like electronic guided fireworks, lol.

So, each bomb has its own rocket to send it where they want? They must be huge to have so many in one tube. Are there that many cities in Russia that would need a persuasive nudge? I know that in a nuclear war not too many military targets will even be considered the targets will all be mostly cities.
Goodbye Liberal Blue cities, tsk, what a shame. There won't be a Washington DC either.
If Russian DOD personnel were aware of the firepower and the utter uselessness of their missile defense they would end the provocation post haste. And to be honest, I’m sure they do. They WILL NEVER fire a nuclear missile at the west. The mutual destruction would be hellaciously one sided. It’s time to ignore their threats and throttle them.

Yes. Here is an AI description:
How does a boomer sub's missile system work?
Quote:To launch a missile, a ballistic missile submarine (often referred to as a "boomer") like the US Navy's Ohio-class, follows a complex sequence designed to launch the missile from underwater safely and effectively.
Here's a breakdown of the process
1. Preparation and depth adjustment: The submarine needs to be at a specific depth, typically around 50 meters, for a successful launch. Before launching, the missile's target information and flight path are loaded into its onboard computer.
2. Launching the missile:
* Once at the correct depth, the submarine opens the hatch covering the missile tube.
* A steam generator inside the launch tube creates a powerful pressure surge. This rapid vaporization of water into steam provides the initial force to push the missile out of its tube, overcoming the surrounding water pressure.
* The missile, which is watertight and pressurized with nitrogen, rises through the water towards the surface due to the initial boost and its momentum.
3. Emerging and ignition:
* As the missile breaks the water's surface, its engines ignite, propelling it into the air.
* Several safety mechanisms are in place to deactivate the missile if it fails to clear the water and poses a danger to the submarine.
* An internal inertial guidance system, potentially aided by a star sighting navigation system, takes over to guide the missile toward its target.
* In the case of the Trident II (D-5), it then uses three solid-fueled booster stages and a liquid-fueled "bus" in the front end that disperses multiple independently targeted reentry vehicles (MIRVs) towards their individual targets.
* After the payload is released, a special maneuver called Plume Avoidance Maneuver (PAM) can be initiated to prevent the correctional thrust of the post-boost vehicle from interfering with the reentry vehicles.
4. Targeting: Submarine-launched ballistic missiles like the Trident II (D-5) are guided by sophisticated systems. They use inertial guidance, possibly combined with star sightings or other navigational updates, to maintain accuracy during their flight and reach their designated targets. Some missiles may also utilize GPS for certain missions. However, the US Navy has not publicly stated firing GPS-equipped Trident missiles due to fears of potential GPS tampering.
5. Deterrence: Ballistic missile submarines like the Ohio-class are designed for extended deterrent patrols, providing an undetectable platform for launching missiles and contributing to a nation's strategic triad.

"...Russian intelligence services appear to be reassessing and possibly innovating their sabotage operations in Europe. The Economist and Bloomberg, citing an upcoming report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), recently reported that instances of suspected Russian sabotage attacks and hybrid warfare incidents in Europe sharply escalated to 30 attacks in 2024; IISS also counted 11 suspected Russian-backed hybrid attacks in Europe between January and May 2025.[14] The Economist reported that IISS analysts assessed that the decreasing trend in the number of suspected sabotage attacks in 2025 could be due to the increased NATO presence in the Black Sea, Russia's attempts to posture itself as a good-faith negotiator during peace negotiation with the United States about the war in Ukraine, or concerns that the scale of Russian hybrid attacks in Europe may provoke NATO escalation.[15] US and European officials told Bloomberg that the decreasing trend could be due to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s desire to avoid antagonizing US President Donald Trump at the start of Trump's second term and early peace efforts in Ukraine, the reallocation of Russian General Staff's Main Directorate (GRU) resources to Ukraine, high-profile trials of saboteurs that are deterring future attacks, or the Moscow's attempts to tighten its control over and restrain the local proxies that Russia is using to conduct the attacks.[16] The official sources cautioned that the decreasing trend does not indicate that Russia has stopped its hybrid attacks or will not escalate them in the future, noting that Russian sabotage plots are more frequent in eastern European states than those in western Europe. IISS similarly warned that Russian intelligence services may be refining their tactics and reassessing the criminal networks in Europe with whom they partner, and that Russia may renew its hybrid campaign against Europe in the near future.[17]..."

I think Trump just realizes that Putin is fully playing him. Its very simple. Putin doesnt want a negotiated settlement while he still believes he has a chance to get everything he wants on the battlefield. His chances of getting what he wants on the battlefield rests almost entirely on Trump withholding weapons from the Ukrainians. Trump read the nice telephone conversations and talk of peace from Putin as "real" and didnt want to do anything that might undermine his position as a reasonable mediator for substantive peace talks. Putin understood that---and used that leverage to slow the pace of negotiations---suggesting on the Trump phone calls his great desire to get to a cease fire peace deal---while simultaneously directing his armed forces to redouble offensive operations and tempo in Ukraine because he knew the Ukrainians were starting to run short of ammunition (largely due to Trump halting the sale of American weapons to Urkraine).
It took a while, but Trump has figured out that Putin is not being genuine in his telephone conversation regarding a peace deal, which is likely why he decided that the 50 day time frame for Russia to get serious about peace was just playing into Putin's hand yet again. I think Trump is done with that dance. Ive always believed it will take both the carrot and the STICK to get Putin to negotiate a reasonable compromise peace deal---perhaps Trump is finally reaching the same conclusion. The very public move to let Putin know the US has nukes too and can park them on his doorstep (might even be there right now) suggests Trump has already begun to substantially change up the negotiating waltz.

This is how I expected it to go generally - not specifically that we'd be putting 2 nuclear subs off the Russian coast based on Medvedev's bluster but here we are. If you think about it, you just knew that Trump was going to jump in with both feet IF...Putin didn't take Trump seriously. Alternatively, Putin may have taken Trump seriously but feels he has no choice in continuing the war so he "stalled" as best as he could while hoping Russian forces could overwhelm Ukrainian forces and take Kiev.
Going off the assumption that Putin sees the war as his point of no return - which isn't surprising given the nature of preserving power in dictatorships - your conclusion should be that Trump would become a Ukraine war supporter in some capacity. I predict that Trump will end up putting more resources into Ukraine than Biden and with less restrictions. If you had red ass over Biden throwing support to Ukraine - be prepared for when Trump does the same plus extra. That's what I think will happen in the near future. It's what I always thought was going to happen with Trump despite all his initial support to end the war. I believe he wanted to but simply realized Putin wasn't interested. So...here we are...
If Trump will not commit more support to Ukraine because of fear of WW3, then he sure as hell isn’t going to launch a 1st nuclear strike. This is TV drama for the US audience but it’s meaningless otherwise. If he wanted to appropriately respond and stand up to Putin, he would substantially increase US support in Ukraine. He’d reassert US leadership in NATO and ease their concerns that we’ve abandoned them.
No, this kabuki theatre reminds me of the sub battle scene from Hunt for Red October when Russian Captain Ramius is giving the appearance of its the Red October’s destruction, while he’s actually turning the sub over to the US.
