Hope you can give a thought to the flood and victims in the Texas Hill Country
Kerrville, only about 20 mi from my doorstep, has 13 confirmed fatalities as of present. Some areas around Kerrville had 14 inches drop in the last 24 hours, and the Guadalupe overran its flood measurement meter (at 29 ft over flood stage) earlier this morning.

Worse, at this time there are 20 2nd to 5th grader girl campers missing from the Mystic Girls Camp located on the Guadalupe. Last call had about 200 state emergency workers combing the area at the present time for them.

Bunch of us have donated sleep space and kitchen time to rescue workers pouring into the area. We had a host of travelers cancel, as well as a few neighbors. We are doing shift work to cook for the state emergency workers heading into the area and staying with us.

And a whole host of families surging into the area to get their kids, since there are a multitude of summer camps in the immediate region.

Not much anyone here on this site can do, but if you have a moment, please think a silent prayer for the missing, the known dead, and all the families of the above. And give thanks to the god awesome emergency workers and volunteers that have come into the communities to help their efforts.

I have family in the San Antonio area. I need to reach out to them. (I'm sure they're okay, but it would be nice to hear from them anyway.)

I pray that the remaining victims are found alive, the deceased victims are with the Lord, and the victims' families (both living and deceased) and the communities affected find peace in the Lord, and that His Healing Hand assuages their worries and grief. In Jesus Christ's name, Amen.

What a terrible tragedy. Good of you to post this, and to help, Tanq.

If I were there, I would gladly pitch in, too. In times like these, thoughts and prayers seem so futile, but sometimes that's all we can do, and sometimes, it helps.

Let us know how it goes, and if there is anything we can do such as donate to a fund, or anything else.

Agreed. It's moments like these that should remind us all there is a lot more to life than arguing politics on a message board forum. And I'm thankful for the first responders and volunteers doing everything they can to help the victims and their families. May God keep them safe as well.

Thanks for letting us know. Will certainly send prayers that many are saved and that those dealing with grief will in some way find comfort. I feel most for the children and their families. How awful.

We make a lot of bullchit seem important here when in all reality it’s not really important at all. We can’t change the world here on this MB but we can try and help our fellow man during hard times with being there, donating to helpful causes and with prayers when other ways are not possible.

I just saw on my local ABC affiliate's Facebook account (on my feed) that there are now 24 confirmed fatalities from the Texas Hill Country flood. Please continue to pray for those still missing, the loved ones of the lives that were lost, and the first responders and volunteers looking for survivors and aiding those who have been found alive.

Reports today say the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in 45 minutes, and hit in the middle of the night. There was a girls' camp by the river, and 23 of those young girls are still missing. Terrible.

I hope so, too, but they found one girl earlier, twelve miles down the river. I don't think they ever knew what hit them.

Most of those little girls were 8 years old.

Last I heard from my county newspaper's Facebook page, there's a family from Liberty that's missing. I pray they're found safely, as well as the rest of those who are missing.

Just saw some pictures of the young ladies that are lost. They are so small. All smaller than my granddaughters who are going to church camp next week.

I can only imagine what the families of the missing children are going through right now.

RE: Hope you can give a thought to the flood and victims in the Texas Hill Country
Picked this up from another Board.

The Texags board has a thread with people who have fairly close ties to the situation posting updates. Like one is a father whose daughter is missing, another’s wife is a former counselor or employee and in a group chat with other former counselors, etc.

It sounds like the night security guy and another woman both got the warning in the 1 am hour and spent the next few hours evacuating all of the lower cabins next to the river and calling other camps to warn them.

All of the missing girls are from a couple of cabins that were on higher ground, like 30-35 ft above water line, that were not touched by the ‘87 flood, and presumed to be safe.

Once all of the lower cabins were evacuated, they realized the water was going to reach the higher cabins so they started on those and got a couple of them done. The owner was running back with his truck for more girls and he was washed away, and then those cabins were destroyed or washed away as well.

It sounds like everything that was supposed to happen from a prep/emergency management standpoint was executed to plan, and that taking out the higher cabins was unprecedented based on history.
