Ukrainians Fuming After Trump Abruptly Leaves G7 Conference and Ditches Meeting With Zelensky

At this critical juncture, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky was counting on having some personal time with Trump during the G7 conference in Canada, to advance his requests and pleadings.

But that was not to happen.

The Guardian reported:

“Ukrainian diplomats have been left frustrated – and in some cases embittered – at Donald Trump’s refusal to make Ukraine a priority after Volodymyr Zelensky flew 5,000 miles to the G7 conference in Canada only for the US president to return home the night before the two leaders were due to meet. Trump said he needed to focus on the Israel-Iran conflict.

In a further blow for Kiev the US vetoed a joint statement on Ukraine from the summit, on the grounds that the wording was too anti-Russian and could compromise negotiations with Vladimir Putin.”

It is now unclear if Zelensky will attend NATO Summit in the Hague next week.

“With the US chair at the G7 summit removed, Zelensky instead sat down with the other members of the group at a special session dedicated to Ukraine, but the central purpose of the session – to try to enlist Trump’s support to put pressure on Putin to agree a ceasefire – had been nullified by the US president’s abrupt departure announced to fellow G7 leaders in the afternoon. Zelensky was also due to have a one-to-one meeting with Trump.

[…] Zelensky had billed that the G7 summit as one of two golden chances to apply collective western pressure on Trump, and to discuss Ukraine’s plans to buy as much as $30bn to $50bn worth of air defense systems and weapons from the United States as a form of security guarantees.”

On the way to the G7, Zelensky visited Austria and was involved in a bad controversy for standing beneath an umbrella and leaving his wife in the rain.

“Some Ukrainian officials said they were not sure now if it will be worth Zelenskyy attending the Nato summit in The Hague next week since there was no guarantee that Trump would attend.”

Kyiv Independent reported:

“Some in Kyiv are unsure if Zelensky’s presence at the June 24-25 summit would be worthwhile without a confirmed meeting with Trump, whom they had hoped to engage directly in efforts to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into accepting a ceasefire.

{…} One official told the Guardian that Ukraine is in a ‘permanent hazard’ of becoming a victim of ‘Trump’s short attention span’, adding that Russia has exploited this uncertainty by fresh aerial attacks. The source added that there had been ‘all sorts of promises for this summit’, including U.S. arms.”

“This year Kiev had secured $43 billion to finance its domestic weapon production, Zelensky said.”

Ukraine is only able to produce 40% of its defense equipment domestically, and it’s planning to launch joint weapon production outside of the country.

“’We have launched a program ‘Build with Ukraine’ and in summer we will sign relevant agreements to start exporting our technologies abroad in the format of opening production lines in European countries’, Zelensky said.”

Zelensky Speaks at Defense Industry Event in the Netherlands Before NATO Summit, Asks for Another $175 Billion for War Effort

I listened to Putin’s so called press conference in St Petersburg. He said “there is an old Russian proverb that says wherever a Russian boot has ever stood belongs to Russia”. He made the claim that the Russians were the ones to reunite Germany and that Germany should be grateful to them.

Trump will make a big mistake trusting this dick in any deal.

I stopped reading when I got to the part that said the Russians are advancing 10-12 miles a day----which would represent a massive breakout not seen since the first year of the war. Thats 100-120 miles in 10 days. No current war maps (including the Russians own war maps) reflect any such thing. Some of you Putintards will honestly believe any Russian propaganda served up to you. It doesnt even have to sound real anymore for you guys to slurp it up (much less actually be real).

Here is real news---the biggest skeptic of all is finally figuring it out. Today, before a NATO Summit, President Trump admitted its possible Putin has European ambitions beyond Ukraine (Gee---who's been saying that for 3 years?)---and he acknowledged Putin has been more difficult to deal with than he anticipated. He said Putin is "misguided". Zelensky and Trump DID meet. Trump signed off on the NATO declaration that Russia poses a "long term threat" to NATO and indicated he is ready to consider selling weapons to Ukraine again (thats "sell"---not "give"---which I would think would be reasonably agreeable to most everyone).
