Outstanding defensive performance again by the HOGS.
Ratings... scale of 1-10 (1= sucks, 10= championship caliber)
QB - 7 - Matt Jones didn't have flashy numbers, but he played a very efficient game. He was 10-18, 113 yds., but he didn't throw into trouble, and he didn't make any mistakes. Played a very clean game.
RB - 6.5 - Talley paced the HOGS with 77 yds. Great running by DeArrius Howard, who pushed Gamecocks back and fought for yardage. Good to see Cedric Cobbs get some carries as well.
WR - 7.5 - Carlos Ousley's TD was terrific. No dropped balls, good effort, great jobs by Wilson and Birmingham. Even Jason Peters didn't drop a pass (hallejuah!)
OL - 8 - Shawn Andrews is the best OL in the SEC, no doubt about it. Lacy and Davenport are starting to gel very nicely. Dan Doughty was rock solid, and Jones wasn't rushed on many passes.
DL - 6.5 - They gave up that early drive, but then shut down the running game for the most part. Still shaky at times, but Raymond House and Justin Scott both had good games.
LB - 9 - Walls, Bua, Gallon, and company were outstanding. They kept the SC offense in check, helped the DL stuff the run, and made life very tough for Corey Jenkins. Bua had 9 tackles to add.
DB - 8.5 - Best effort by the secondary in an SEC game. Richardson and Jackson were tough, instead of playing soft coverage. Batman Carroll made several good stops.
Kicking/STs - 8- Butler missed the snap, and turned it into a 15 yd penalty against SC. Carlton missed the 50 yd. FG but otherwise was dead on accurate. Birmingham seemed to finally get the punt return game down.
Coaching - 9 - Well coached game for Houston Nutt and co. Holtz was confused and distraught all day long. Game ball to Dave Wommack for a second straight shutout, the first time since 1974 UA has done that.
