Is America more innovative than it was 25 years ago? How does Rice stack up?
Copied from the Spin Room:

Is America more innovative or better at research than it was 25 years ago? Just the opposite: Universities have fat endowments and thousands of highly-paid administrators, but their actual work is less impressive by the day.
Not only that, but campuses have embraced ideological poisons like DEI and critical race theory that are a death sentence for authentic science. And of course, every year brings another 4-5% hike in tuition.
The Trump Administration is right to demand immediate change. No more racial discrimination. No more Marxism masquerading as science. No more waste.

Im impressed at the insta-metric of "but their actual work is less impressive by the day."
In the MSE spaces, the developments today are pretty damn impressive, from my perspective. But hey, glad to know that "but their actual work is less impressive by the day". Little did I know that the ultimate fountain of all knowledge Charlie Kirk has deemed it to be. Color me as corrected.

just look at the improvement in the accuracy of hurricane track predictions, a lot of which is driven by partnerships between NOAA and academic institutions directly or indirectly (via training of PhD modelers).
I found this article that has a great graphic showing how the cones of uncertainty have shrunk over time: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/weather...10482.html
Clearly Charlie Kirk isn't actually stepping inside the labs and offices of professors working on campus when he shows up to debate undergrads...

But the one area where he is dead on correct is the stupid wastage on environmental engineering grants. Worthless field at the start --- <grin>

It's SOOO not impressive that there are cancer drugs that can target very specific tumors and shrink them into nothingness. Ongoing development of cancer vaccines is also EXTREMELY unimpressive. Who even wants that anyway?
