This is the most intelligent question you've asked...Lord knows I handed it to you on a silver platter. Unfortunately, it also shows how daft you are. Here, I'll explain it to you. Our nearest conference game is like 1000 miles away or something. Very few fans can travel to away games and the largest groups of visiting fans we get is around 300. So, obviously, we'd like to be in a conference where we can travel to away games and we can count on 1000 or so visiting fans for confernece games (hopefully more when we play more local teams-SMU, Rice, Tulane, USM). Tech's desire to be in CUSA has NOTHING to do with the quality of your competition. As far as money sports go, baseball is the only sport where CUSA is superior to the WAC. I personally think that in basketball and football, the WAC is superior. I'll conceed that my last statement is debatable. So, it's a lateral move at best. It's a financial decision. Plus, we enjoyed being in a conference with SMU, Rice, Tulsa, and UTEP. I'd love to be in a conference with Tulane. We won't be getting invited to the SEC anytime soon and the Sunbelt is subpar. When you look objectively, CUSA/WAC/MWC are just about equal. CUSA just happens to be the one closest to Tech. It seems pretty obvious why CUSA is preferred over the WAC. Thanks for the grammar help owl...I guess that would make CUSA a "deluded" basketball conference right?

The WAC is nowhere near being as competitive in football, baseball, or basketball. That is laughable, son. LTH would finish in the bottom third of CUSA in football.

Sure, you do have a traditionally strong...although declining....women's basketball program.
Other than that you bring average to below average sports, well below average facilities, and a below average athletic budget.
Back that up with something. (RPI, Sagarin , any Polls , rankings) Almost all show Tech would finish in the top quarter of CUSA in Football , MBB, WBB , Mens and Womens T&F (both indoor and outdoor) and Baseball.

The attendance and facilities arguements hold water. We have work to do. The competing on the field/court arguement doesn't.

La Tech would not be in the top half of CUSA in baseball, let alone "the top quarter" as you claim. CUSA has nine baseball teams. Six of those nine are well ahead of La Tech in the RPI.

Boyd's college baseball RPI, as of this morning:

I'll let others dig up the relevant rankings for other sports.

People People People. I am so sick of hearing about our bad athletic facilites. We have a sub par football stadium that is it. All it needs is a Jumbotron and a new turf; which is in storage and waiting to be laid. TAC is by far better than most or haven't you seen SMU's gym and JCLove is far superior to most or haven't you seen UAB's baseball stadium. We have great track and field and a way above par women's softball complex. Anyone who thinks Louisiana Tech is not up to par on athletic facilities has not been to our campus. And by the way unlike Memphis, we really have a campus.

And by the way our baseball team is getting much better with this new coach and will be a definite asset to CUSA baseball. You definitely have a great baseball conference but believe me this team will get even better and can compete. And please lets not talk about CUSA basketball. The Sunbelt can compete in that. Football will have Tech in the top half almost every year given a few give or take down years.

Please. I've seen your basketball arena. Ours is much nicer. As is my old high schools. Speaking of my old high school team, they could probably beat S. Miss in basketball as well. If you keep stringing together a few more good recruiting classes you might break out of the 280's in RPI and work your way towards 220 or so. That will be real progress. I'm pullin' for ya 2999. You can do it!!

I'll let others dig up the relevant rankings for other sports.

I'll do it for you:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbc05.htm

We would be ranked 4th out of 13 teams in CUSA in football.

http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_cusa_Men.html

Also 4th out of 13 teams in Mens basketball. I can find many other RPI sites for MBB that are similar. I picked this one at random.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/bkc0506.htm

This one would have had us at 5 out of 13.

#1 in womens basketball

http://www.rpiratings.com/womrate.htm

You were right about baseball I had based that on what I had seen earlier in the year and hadn't looked at the polls/rpi lately. I should have figured we had dropped considering how bad we slumped lately.

I didn't look up track. I base that on the fact that our women have won the WAC the last few years indoor and outdoor.

The point of my post still stands OWLSD. I really find it hard to believe you of all people would be ripping Tech. Most Rice fans I know have been very respectful towards Tech. And it wasn't like you were exactly setting the WAC on fire before you left. I think the last time we played in football you were thumped at home 51-14.

As a matter of fact during our shared time in the WAC I think we were 2-2 vs. Rice , 3-1 vs. UTEP , 3-1 vs. Tulsa and 3-1 vs. SMU in football. If you think these 4 schools suddenly became that much better in your 1 year in CUSA then fine. Thats not realistic though and you know it.

Ours is about to undergo a multi-million dollar renovation. Eustacy, former Big 12 coach of the year, just put together the #11 recruiting class in the nation. Buh-bye, Blah Yech. Enjoy our dust. Oh, wait. You're so far behind USM in athletics that you can't even see it.04-rock

I love it. USM talking smack about their fabulous basketball team. Dude our arena is so much nicer than yours. Like I said earlier the only thing Tech has to be ashamed of if their football stadium the rest is right up there or better than anything in CUSA. We are a field turf and Jumbotron away from competing in the football arena also. Get over it. You will see us soon enough. Soon to be USM's worst nightmare. and hey even with the baseball slump, still 4-0 baby. SO bite me USLIM.

Except a Cindy fan talking crap.

What's Cindy got? Basketball. That't it.

We've got more top 25 finishes in the past 4 years in football than Cindy's got period. We've got the third longest baseball regional appearance streak ever (it's still active, and at this point no one is close to matching it) we've recently won a national title in golf, and our soccer program is a mainstay in the NCAA's. You've got....basketball, and that's likely on a donslide after running off Thuggins.

Quote:And congrats on having a #22 ranked BCS school in a bowl, thereby making your conference full of Big East champions look like crap.
It just goes to show you how sorry the Big East was, and how much sorrier the Big Least is. In it's last 4 years in the Big East Miami lost a grand total of one conference game. They've lost 5 in two season in the ACC.

Nothing like a Clemson fan talking crap. Your basketball program is crap and your football program is overrated. You can say what you want about us, but we're going around acting like we're big shots like you are. Why talk smack about the Big East? The Big East couldn't care less about South Carolina's little cousin.

Quote:Your basketball program is crap and your football program is overrated.

Please. You are a Cindy and Big Least fan....the last thing you should be talking about is overrated anything in football. For Cindy to be overrated, they'd have to be rated to begin with.

At Cindy they refer to seasons where you finish 7-7 and lose to a Sun Belt team as "The Glory Years"....at Clemson that gets you on the hotseat.

Cindy, where you can only beat the 4th place Southern Conference team by 4 points AT HOME!

We're in the Top 30 in all time wins, Top 25 in bowl appearances, and Top 20 in bowl wins. We get 17,500 to the spring game....you can only average 22k to your regular season games. Despite the fact that we started playing football 11 years after you did, we have 104 more wins abd 115 fewer losses. We'll not mention the fact that after last season we have finished ranked 23 times, and you are still looking for your first after 121 years of football. The absolute last thing you need to be talking about is football. The only reason you know anything about football is being exposed to the southern schools in CUSA for what little time you spent here.

Again, at Clemson we tend to look at the overall athletic program...and not just one sport. Besides....our basketball program has had far more success than that sorry excuse of a football program.

ONe thing he doesn't do...and that would be come to a C-USA board and disparage the league and its teams like you do.

You have a proud basketball program.

But, please, have some shame....we know you were geographic tag-along into the Big East but stop using Louisville to fight your battles.

There is not a single football program in C-USA (that has played football for more than a decade) that doesn't have more football accomplishments in its left nut than Cincy does in its entire history. At least wait until you get ranked....just once....before putting down superior programs.

LMFAO!!! You won a couple of meaningless midweek games against our midweek pitching. Play a CUSA weekend series and see how you do. lmfao

Worst nightmare? Uh, you're friggin 13-29 against us. You are nothing but another of our Louisiana patsies just like ULL, UL-Monroe, etc. The only nightmare that you would cause us if you ever made it to CUSA is the embarrassment of having to be associated with a crap school like Blah Yech.

Speaking of which, the best comedy of all is how there is a Clemson fan bragging about having the new Big East teams and because of those teams Clemson is a second class citizen in its own conference! lol! And the bigger irony is that the same thing happened to Southern Miss! Heh.
