Dutch bank ING sale of Russian assets fails
https://nltimes.nl/2026/04/07/ings-sale-...nt-approve
The Kremlin denied all potential sales of ING operations in Russia.
The Dutch lender had hoped to sell its business there for around a billion dollars, but instead will be forced to simply walk away and abandon the business.
Outstanding loans continue to be paid to the Russian government.
However, Dutch owned businesses in Russia stopped making loan payments in 2022 at the advice of Western advisors. Those businesses have since been seized for non payment, bringing in approximately $4 billion in assets to Russian authorities.

Meanwhile, European losses from their sanctions on Russia are approaching $3 trillion USD.

Just add it to the list of their recent miscalculations, poor judgement, and inflated sense of power.

You seem confused about what this means by believing this is somehow a positive for Russia. It’s bad for ING, but they deserve that for not pulling back on their Russian operations after 2014, but nothing about this is good for Russia.

In the end, I suspect almost all the Russian frozen funds will never be returned to Russia and will go into a fund for rebuilding Ukraine and to compensate companies who suffered losses due to Russian government actions. Its also why Putins talk of big business deals with Trump peak little interest or support in the Western business community. It will be a long long time before western companies ever invest big money in a rogue dictator led Russia.
