If the outdoor track season can match this pair of 4th place finishes, that will go a long way to boosting the Cougars in the NEC All Sports standings. Fall was rough. Despite the extremely successful volleyball campaign, cross country really lagged with last place finishes. Soccer teams, while competitive at times, also finished toward the very bottom.
Basketball results are still up in the air, but there is a chance for both squads to finish ahead of numerous other teams, and near the middle. We will see.
I need to research how the NEC does their scoring. Some take the average of the sports a school does participate in. Others conferences just skip you and if you don’t offer it, you get no points. If that is the case with the NEC, schools like Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU that offer virtually every conference sport will likely win regardless. But the Cougars have a shot of placing well I believe.
The NEC sponsors a LOT of conference sports. Chicago has, or is adding, the major ones, but field hockey, lacrosse, M/W swimming, men’s volleyball, football, baseball, softball, and bowling are a lot of lost ground. It many conferences have as many conference sports as the NEC.
