Final P4 Break Away Push?
This would seem to be a final push for the P4 to make their break. March Madness is really one of the only things truly preventing it. Yes, the P4 needs to keep mid-majors around some to spread liability and costs, but that (I think) is getting to be less so.

Shades of the 1960's war between AAU and NCAA, when it took General MacArthur to call a temporary ceasefire, and then a 1978 act of congress to finally grant the upper hand to NCAA in the governance of amateur athletics. Money and power are the issues now. Today, there are no more true amateurs in colleges and Jim Thorpe is spinning in his grave.
Brace yourselves for the next great curse that will assault college athletics: legalized gambling, wagering, betting, gaming will continue to corrupt everything it touches.

RE: Final P4 Break Away Push?
The evolution of college athletics into the world of NIL, P4, and, yes, likely, gambling, is a big disappointment to me personally. I go to games as a loyal fan, and I don't even know the names of some of the players anymore. It is a revolving door situation. I think it is time for some like-minded universities to step away from the NCAA and form a competitive league with rules that create competitions without money being the over-ruling concept. Athletics are so very useful for young people as they learn teamwork, playing within rules, while making education a big part of their university experience, as well as refining their physical abilities. I know it is a pipe dream, but it sure would be more attractive to me as a supporter of my University and its teams if college athletics adhered more to amateurism and left the professional time to post college activities. Scholarships for athletics seem fair to me as long as universities provide ample opportunities for amateur intermurals for all students who want to participate. Call me an old foggy. P.S. And yes, I know 50 years ago some universities and/or their backers were rewarding their athletes under the table.

YES!!!!
The Ivy tried it in football in the 1970's and I'd say it didn't work then. Maybe the current environment could cause the needed change. College should be our student body versus yours. Maybe it could get back to that.
