I would not trace the deck for the mud, fire ants, crooked lines, and tailgate lots that moved every week, and rude LF workers. LF needs a wrecking ball. Our downfall started with Clark having enough of the Admin's BS and retiring. Had nothing to do with Protective. I love my chair backs and short walk to the restrooms. Everyone I have brought loves the stadium. Winning and good crowds cures a lot of things. As ****** at Protectives concession food is, it's still better than dark green hot dogs, watered down drinks, and soggy nachos from LF.

Concessions vs. concessions, sure, but the vendors that were allowed into Legion Field brought it. I got an Italian sausage from one of them every game because it was so good.

This. The family selling barbecue, smoked on the spot. The fresh-squeezed lemonade from the giant lemon. A pineapple, hollowed out and filled with alcohol: three of those, and even McGeeBall was tolerable.

Now we have bland corporate sameness enforcing their right to remain closed.

Fumbles, please quit. Please.

Yes, the outside vendors that were allowed in were good. We always didn't have those outside vendors either. The LF vendor food sucked on a good day.

I liked the guys that sold cold cans of beer straight out of a cooler for like $3 at legion field.

I remember walking to a game somewhere and there was a guy selling bags of peanuts. His pitch was “Peanuts!!! Same as they sell inside but $2 cheaper”.

He wasn’t lying.

I remember a game on the road that we were playing in and if we won we would get to host the conference championship at Protective. IIRC we were facing a fourth down with about 2 minutes left in the game. We were running the ball great and the Oline was dominant. About 4” to go. Win and we host the championship. We punted and lost the game. Anyone remember that game? Playing and winning a championship at your new stadium is how you build a fan base.

I agree, that is when UAB Football started going downhill, the BYU win was a nice feather in Clark's cap, but that was just a pause before it came rolling down hill.

I know that was before everyone was going for it on 4th down, but damn that would have been massive for UAB, instead it was a catalyst for UTSA to be dominate in CUSA and do well in their first year in AAC. The next week we had less than 20k in Protective and UTSA hosted more than 41k in the Alamodome for the CUSA conference championship.

That was DEFINITELY still in the analytics era and it’s also just common sense to go for it in that situation. Clark made a mistake with very big down stream ramifications, as you both pointed out.

When UAB football started going down hill was when we were embarrassed by Liberty at protective in our first home game. Didn’t exactly set a good tone for the future. Only gone down hill since.
