I remember the Sun Belt Sponsor candy bar give-a-ways before and after games at BJCC. One night Twix Bars were being given out at the central box office exit after a game. There were 2 guys handing them out and I recall they must have had 4 giant boxes with several hundred candy bars per box. There were lots of students patiently waiting to get one. Out of the blue, two young guys decided to take an entire box of the Twix Bars for themselves which they both picked up on each side of the bulky box. The giant box appeared to be very heavy. They proceeded towards the BJCC concert hall and it appeared they would get away with it. One of the 2 guys in charge of handing out the candy bars was somehow tipped off about the situation and he sprinted off running full speed. He ran them down 3-4 blocks away on the street close to what is now UPTOWN. Candy Bars were all over the place, but the 2 gave up the candy
bars without incident. That guy could sprint like "The Freeze". Those Sun Belt early years were great basketball for UAB fans.

Funny, my Dad was the sponsor of the Mars promos that year in the conference. Interesting times to say the least. Lol
