100% yes

I’ve been to ULM’s stadium. It is Lesion Field lite. Monroe needs a new stadium bad. The amount of rust and decay I saw in that place is concerning.

How long is the agreement between the city and UAB? Would it be better if there were better public transportation between campus and the Uptown District?

10 years, $40-44 million

On campus stadium was a $75 million proposal.

Instead we’re locked in another stadium we don’t really like, with poor operations splitting revenue and operating at a loss damn near like 10 years ago because we’ve not tried to grow the base.

May be renting protective for $25k a game too.

I’m sure someone else will come with correct info. Just some numbers I remember

I’m the only one that misses legion field.

Also, fire the gameday DJ. Music selection sucks

I think the last thing I read somewhere was a 20yr agreement

https://www.al.com/news/birmingham/2018/...o_lea.html

but this article says UAB and corporate partners have committed to a combined $4 million a year for 10 years through a lease agreement, sponsorship and naming rights.

https://patch.com/alabama/birmingham-al/...ew-stadium

I think 20yrs is the agreed upon lease agreement. I say if we do good and get past this coaching Dilfsaster, why change stadiums unless leasing becomes an issue. Its no different than Memphis finally getting the Liberty Stadium.

2.5 miles from the center of Univ of Memphis campus to the Liberty Bowl
3 miles from Center of UAB campus to Protective
I literally had to walk from the Liberty bowl to our hotel on campus this year. it's not far

Blame the music selection on Ingram. He's always boasting to Tony Kurre that he has a hand in choosing the in game music.

I know there are a lot of politics that still control what UAB is able to do, especially with the athletic department. But it is still shocking to me that Bryant has been gone for over 40 years, and Bartow has been for sometime as well. It’s crazy they there is still a fight between the UAT and UAB heads. I know I was t happy with who state appointed as our last president down in Mobile, but I can’t imagine dealing with what you guys have dealt with for 40+ years. There are inexpensive ways to be on campus, just look at what Hawaii and Northwestern are currently doing. Just not sure the leadership is there to push back against the poor management of the city and the overlords in Tuscaloosa.

Actually...I feel the same way. Maybe it's nostalgia, since I moved away while we were under the Pumpkin Death Penalty and I've only been able to go to two games at Protective, but it just feels...sterile.

We all wanted the OCS, and it would've been great. But, Protective will have to do. We need to figure out how to get more folks in it. I wonder whether our "butts in seats" number has gone up post Legion Field.

People always said no one wanted to go to Legion Field for games, but at least it had a dedicated parking lot and good tailgating. We've traded the nice downtown stadium for those things.

It’ll never happen but a 25-28k seat ocs is what was needed. Protective is way too big.

At this point the city may just give it to y’all. Mobile gave Ladd Stadium to the Mobile County School system.

An actual visionary leader, in the Hill-Volker mold, would take the BSC campus plus Legion Field complex, the handful of properties between them, and develop these into a centerpiece: with rapid and reliable transit to the main campus, allowing the Legion Field lots to be used for remote parking. Stripping the Bryant-Era ugly additions from Legion Field and renovating the 30-40K seat brick stadium that's buried underneath the rust. Re-develop the surrounding area into housing for faculty, staff and students eager to walk to work thanks to that transit system. Provide a clean and secure neighborhood for the people already there, and a low-cost loan program allowing them to repair their homes and not be leveraged out by gentrification, with walkable access to well-paying jobs. Develop a bar and restaurant district that now would have daily walk-in business and not just six times a year game-day crowds.

Universities are economic engines. UAB West would be transformative.

RE: A Reddit post I came across
The difference from a fan interaction standpoint is that those of us who actually made noise at legion field, sit on the east side. All the folks that used to hide in The club seats at Legion field and not make noise at all are sitting directly behind the team now.

I used to sit with the GreenHouse folks and we did every cheer and every thing that required interaction with the band.

The Hey Song(or RockNRoll pt 2)
Blazer fight song
Blazer victory

Those echoed in legion field

Folks below would look up at us like we’re weird for actually behaving as a fan should.

Could actually hear the cheerleaders. Them standing in front of the recruit section don’t make sense, btw.

So, I guess I miss the memories and blazer spirit than anything. There’s none of that at Protective. Used to love hearing Cedrick chewing out the coach’s from a mile away. lol.

I had always thought of that but it was the property between Legion and Rickwood, connecting those two properties with an entertainment district. Of course that was before Protective was built. The idea of connecting BSC and Legion is very intriguing since they are literally a block and half away from connecting already.

The city doesn't own Protective Stadium, the BJCC (a state-created agency whose board is appointed by the Jefferson County Legislative Delegation) does, and that is a way more important distinction than you might think
