just curious - does anybody have any numbers on what type of audience they have? each episode? patreon numbers?

They have close to 200 paying members of their patreon. How many people listen to their free episodes, I'm not sure. John's been doing it since 2020 I believe.

I don't remember that. I do remember him doing it with Finebaum and his cohorts when he was at WAPI - 1070AM.

His coach's show followed Finebaum's and Finebaum had made a snarky comment about the Blazers losing every time he came to watch them. Coach responded on his show, saying that if he came to games other than to watch bigger name opponents he would see plenty of victories. He then boiled over and declared on air that if he ever wanted to come again, Finebaum would have to buy a ticket.

Don’t use our coach’s own words against him, but not hold him accountable for saying to go play Volleyball elsewhere and i don’t have to treat my press conferences seriously because this isn’t Alabama and I don’t have 30 people in here to ask me questions.

It’s just petty bullsh** from Ted, against someone he knows isn’t in the go with the flow he requires of those he works with in the media. John is one of us and is our only voice in that room.

It pisses me that the only ones being held accountable are John, BVP, and the fans. Meanwhile everybody in that athletic department are currently a consistent embarrassment to us to claim to be associated with. No accountability on the south side.

While I do like em alot, the shirts were a terrible idea. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

They took them down but I wouldn’t apologize for a damn thing. Spending out of pocket to attend the games, then spending out of pocket to promote the programs. Should have no shame.

I remember reading about it in print. Finebaum must have still written for the paper at the time because I almost never listen to sports radio other than sometimes the pre and post game basketball broadcasts.

So since Ted is going to read this at some point I'm going to make the assumption that both sides are relaying information as they see it. Let's take a look at the situation....

UAB has little or no media presence even in Birmingham. So concessions reported by Ted to BVP are not exactly bumping a credentialed media member out of a seat. Sure, by the letter he has no obligation to do anything with BVP. But there are plenty of available seats at any media event so having someone there to actually ask a question and report benefits UAB

BVP is self supporting. No check that, they lose their shirts (pun intended). In return for digging in their own pockets to produce content they give UAB more exposure. How much does UAB pay for this exposure? Nothing. Zero. Ziltch. All they ask is some consideration

So then there are the T shirts. I thought it was hilarious. Why you ask, Ted? Because it said what everyone was thinking. To tell us that it made fun of the department is intellectually dishonest. The department makes fun of the department. Everyone who tries to gaslight fans telling us there is "a plan" and that good times are ahead with current administration makes Baghdad Bob look like some kind of paragon of truth.

When Dilfer openly praised UofL women's volleyball over UAB sports IN FRONT OF THE AD ON A PODCAST, I thought he should be removed from his job for treason.....

I remember that time a UAT male cheerleader was CBS interviewed during the iron bowl about leaving auburn for UAT and he basically said that his heart was in auburn not tuscaloosa. the next day they kicked him off the squad.

watts, ingram and Dilfer all need to be removed but it ain't happening....those credentials aren't coming back, they don't care that we care.

Those shirts were not nearly as bad as what Joe Goodman had to say so are they going to revoke al.com’s credentials?

The shirts was the excuse, not the reason

Yeah, Ted, there's a problem with your policy. You've admitted quite directly (see above) that this is not a policy, but a suggestion. Because you broke your policy to issue the credential in the first place. So what you've admitted, in public, is that credentials are issued on your whim.

Therefore, you revoked this credential because these podcasters (who I do not know, or follow) pissed you off. That's not my conclusion. That is what you have admitted, in public (pro tip: real communications professionals don't admit that in public).

Here's another pro tip: no one's going to care about your tweet, Ted, because you work for a shambolic organization which has no real accountability. But at a professionally managed organization, your tweet would be a career-ender.

So, Ted. In four hours from the time of this post, ESPN+ will broadcast the UAB-Alabama A&M basketball game. Will they be allowed into Bartow Arena? Per your policy, they are barred.

I agree. Revoking the credentials was wrong. They should have appreciated the publicity and that someone actually cares enough to make a shirt. They should be mature enough to accept criticism without lashing out.
