Presidential fact- John Tyler
Harrison Ruffin Tyler is the still living grandson of 10th President John Tyler, who was president from 1841-1845, and later served as a delegate from Virginia to the provisional Congress of the confederate states. Tyler was born in 1790. So how is it possible that he still has a living grandson?

Well, he was 63 when he had his son, Lyon Gardiner Tyler, and then his son became a new dad at age 75, and that son is now 96. . (He is also the great-grandson of Edmund Ruffin, the man credited with firing the first shot of the US Civil War, at fort Sumter)

234 years since JT was born.

He may even be the only living grandchild of any President from the 1840’s or earlier.

It is. I thought my wife's grandparents age was pretty interesting, but nothing like Tyler's grandson. Her grandmother died at 100 in 1994. Her grandfather died at 95 in 1970, being born in 1875. So both knew plenty of people who experienced Sherman's march through Georgia. Sherman was a 4 letter word.

RE: Presidential fact- John Tyler
I saw this story a couple of years ago. It is crazy to think someone born in 1790 has a grandson still living.

My 4th great grandfather was Charles Polk from Mecklenburg County, NC. His first wife died after having 6 kids. When he was 49, he married my 4th great grandmother when she was 17 and had 7 more kids with her. He was 62 when my 3rd great grandmother was born and 67 when his last kid was born. Men back then had a lot more testosterone and a lot younger wives when they remarried.
