Gun ownership for Republican women skyrockets as decline seen with Dem men
Quote:Gun ownership among Republican women has risen sharply over the past few years while ownership among Democratic men has seen a decline, according to a new Gallup poll.
The survey revealed that 33 percent of Republican women reported owning a firearm in 2019-2024, a significant increase from 22 percent in 2013-2018 and 19 percent in 2007-2012. In contrast, Democratic men have shown a steady decline in gun ownership, dropping from 36 percent in 2007-2012 to 29 percent in the most recent period.
Republican men remain the demographic with the highest rate of gun ownership, with 60 percent reporting they own a firearm in 2024, up from 57 percent in 2007-2012. Meanwhile, only 12 percent of Democratic women reported owning a gun.
“I think it’s phenomenal and speaks to the confidence and courage of women who are moved to protect themselves and their families in the face of the increasing lawlessness and disorder,” said former NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch, according to the New York Post.
The poll also highlighted stark regional disparities in gun ownership. Between 2019-2024, 51 percent of those who self-identify as rural said they own a firearm, compared to only 20 percent of urban residents. Southerners were more than twice as likely to own guns compared to Eastern residents, at 40 percent versus 19 percent.
Nationally, the average rate of gun ownership stands at around 31 percent, reflecting a 2 percent increase from 2013-2018.

Politics aside, that’s just a rational/logical reaction. In event of emergency, rural people will typically have to wait longer than urban people for law enforcement or other assistance to arrive, so it’s natural they would be more likely to own a firearm.

And of course that % excludes many other people who live with firearms in the household but are not the legal owner of them.

Quite so.
Especially in rural areas and small towns.
Yes — which is why it’s predictable that gun-ownership would be more prevalent there.

*shrug*
Disagree with you guys. Cops investigate crimes, they don’t prevent them. City or country. If you’re in trouble, a gun in the hand is worth 10 cops on the phone. Response time in the city might be faster than in the country, but it still isn’t fast enough.

Then what do you believe accounts for the difference? 51% of rurals vs. 20% of urbans? I mean, that is a huge disparity!

Who are you disagreeing with? Nobody said it was fast enough. Just that it's inherently faster in the city than in rural areas. Duh...lol
