Trump administration may hasten the reset of higher ed in the US
In the sports section of these boards, there have been repeated references to the changes in higher education, with smaller schools dropping programs and consolidating, or shutting down. Also, the money spent on tuition relative to the value derived from it continues to be less of a value than it was previously.

The new administration is trying to make big changes in many departments, and it will certainly happen in higher ed. I think that DOGE will result in universities revisiting their corporate structure and slimming down. But there could be much bigger changes coming than just the universities becoming more cost-conscious.

Quote:he truth is that higher education in the United States is desperately in need of a major overhaul.

Many students these days seem to believe that engaging in protests is the main reason to go to college, rather than pursuing an education and scholarship.

Free speech has become a rarity on college campuses while radicals supporting the terror group Hamas are free to march and denounce Jews.

Some schools have endowments that are bigger than the GDP of some small countries, yet the cost of tuition, which is already too high, keeps rising.

What can he do other than directing departments not to fund studies of transphobia in white mice?

There are a lot of red states out there and they are letting their universities bloat their administrative staff with DEI and other worthless bureaucrats while keeping the number of professors flat and raising tuition. Schools are competing with new buildings, fancy gyms and student unions while refusing to control tuition....

Id like to see us push the development of the trades. We have a massive looming shortage of competent trained tradesman. A/C techs, automotive techs, plumbers, welders, electricians, etc... Cant outsource a car or plumbing repair to India.

In our county there is a Vo-Tech HS, but it isn't a real HS. Its just a trade school for a limited number of trades. You have to know you want to be a car mechanic or A/C tech (it has a few other options)
These programs need to be incorporated into a regular HS. Have a magnet program like Houston where people can transfer to the HS with the particular program they want. And Houston also has a HS for the health professions and a HS for Law Enforcement. They aren't typical HSs with football teams, but they do give you a regular HS diploma. You aren't limited.
