Russia, North Korea to expand economic cooperation
https://apnews.com/article/north-korea-r...b32d5235a9

North Korea is likely to get a big boost in infrastructure, power generation, possibly military hardware, and will almost certainly get a major new source of fuels and food products, pharmaceuticals and medical products, cars, trucks, trains, aircraft, ships, construction equipment, farm machinery and important stocks of fertilizer.

Russia can also help them build new power plants, and fuel them, to eliminate power issues. Russia has also built new power grids in dozens of countries, so it should be nothing to build something similar in a small country like the North.

Machine building is a big industry in Russia, and North Korea needs new industrial machinery, and China has been reluctant to provide too much. The more sanctioned Russia becomes, the less likely they are to abide by any more Western “rules.”

The funniest thing is, once North Korea gets the needed economic upgrades, it can’t be undone and they will continue to benefit for a long, long time. It has been estimated that North Korean productivity is 1/3 what it could be, even under sanctions, due to worn out and broken machinery and equipment.

The only thing the West can do is pout about it. They will likely never remove sanctions on Russia anyway, so the West has essentially given Russia free rein to act with no further consequences. The West has already blown their wad in the first few weeks of the SMO.

Ideally, Russia will provide North Korea with the same quantity and variety of weapons that the US has been providing Ukraine. There is little reason for them not to, although Russia has shown much more restraint and foresight than the West when it comes to spreading arms.

The US and SK will be so uncertain as to what exactly the North got, they will spend billions to counter the possible newly acquired arms. The US will probably spend more to station even more troops in South Korea.

It’s a good thing the US has unlimited borrowing capabilities, because it might cost the US a lot to counter a more far reaching Russian foreign policy, should it choose.

Russia isn't going to spend valuable resources and money on NK when they are on the brink of WWIII with the west.

Russia cooperating economically with North Korea is about as significant as Italy cooperating economically with San Marino.

RE: Russia, North Korea to expand economic cooperation
The West is dead and everything in Russia is going gangbusters. Thats the propaganda. Just curious, would a US president presiding over a grinding stalemated vanity war of choice---with 21% interest rates and 8% inflation----be very popular? Carter had lower interest rates with similar inflation---no war----and he lost in a landslide. But, lets toss my opinion aside and just listen to what the HEAD OF THE CENTRAL BANK OF RUSSIA has to say.....

However, the Central Bank predicts that the Russian economy may be on the verge of stagnation next year. According to these estimates, the GDP of the Russian Federation will grow by only 0.5-1 percent, and the dynamics of investment and private consumption will be practically zero.

1.5% growth with 8% inflation and 21% interest rates? Maaannn---who wouldnt want that awesome economy? Plus, if you happen to be on the street theres a chance you might get scooped up to spend a year with a front row seat to Putin's vanity war. Super Duper Awesome.

Looks like the Russian Central Bank is not alone----the IMF agrees with their assessment---

The IMF has already announced that the growth of the Russian economy will decrease threefold - from 3.9 percent this year to 1.3 percent next year. Unless there are additional complications - IMF has warned.

For comparison, next year Russia's GDP will grow one third slower than in developed countries (1.8 percent) and three times slower than in developing countries (4.2 percent). The Russian economy is expected to grow about 3.5 times slower than China (4.5 percent growth) and five times slower than India (6.5 percent). The situation is expected to worsen until 2029.

I wonder if factories and refineries being blown up count as "additional complications"? And how about that last line----The situation is expected to worsen until 2029.

Is this where you pretend giving Ukraine a quarter of a trillion dollars or more is benefitting the US?03-lmfao

Russia can be a conduit for North Korean trade with the world, unhindered.
So it is significant.

China has been reluctant to do too much for the North. Russians will do more.

Whatever deals they work out, Russia has no reason to give them anything without payment. It’s called business. Trade. Commerce. No one has been willing to sell North Korea things they want and need for decades.

The significance is not that it’s going to make much difference to the Russian economy, but that it will help the North, and force the West to keep borrowing more money to counter the “threat.”

US media will downplay any significance, while the US think tank industry will overblow it with fear mongering articles geared toward getting us all willing to go along with whatever defense industry increases will line the right pockets here.

But just like the octogenarians still think Russia IS the Soviet Union, they will also fail to recognize that Un is NOT Kim. The changes made in the North during his rule have the North primed to make more big changes, and that all hinges on economic growth.

It may not take much to grow in NK currently, but it will make a lot of people’s lives better if the food, fuel, and energy systems improve. That’s what Russia can help them with.
