I could easily see Matt Gaetz getting appointed as a Special Counselor/Independent Prosecutor by the new AG to go after a corruption or something of that nature

Gaetz is an (accused) pedophile, though the accusations were under oath and came from multiple sources. Regardless of his ability to actually perform the job, there are plenty of others (like Pam Bondi for one) who can also do an excellent job and don't have all the baggage.

I think Kevin McCarthy was behind this, though it probably didn't take much for moderate Republicans to hesitate even without McCarthy's prodding. I feel like McCarthy is the Balrog in The Fellowship of the Ring, and, on his way to the bottom of the chasm, he just reached out and took down Matt Gaetz to go down with him. Gaetz had enough baggage without McCarthy gunning for him, don't get me wrong, but with a former Speaker with a major grudge against him plus all that baggage...I kinda wonder if Crimson's post was spot-on, and Trump was using Gaetz to let the Senators show they're "doing their job" by keeping Gaetz out, while allowing all the other nominees to sail through unscathed.

Besides, Trump could always reshuffle the Cabinet during a recess and just appoint Gaetz as acting AG if Bondi doesn't get the job done.

I like Pam, but I dont think she is as quick on her feet as Gaetz. On the upside, it looks like Gaetz will likely return to the House---perhaps after taking a short test drive of life as Senator.
