Russia May or May Not Have Launched a Non-Nuclear ICBM at Ukraine
Quote:A Russian ICBM may or may not have hit the Ukrainian city of Dnipro in the early hours of Thursday. If the claim bears out, it would mark the first use of an ICBM in warfare, albeit with conventional warheads. At this writing, there is no confirmation of damage or casualties caused by the attack.

The sole source for identifying the weapon as an ICBM is the Ukrainian military and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Ukrainians did not provide much detail on the strike, saying only that the missile had been launched from the Russian region of Astrakhan and was part of a volley aimed at Dnipro. The Russian Defense Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had attacked Ukraine with a new class of missile. “All the parameters — speed, altitude — match those of an intercontinental ballistic missile,” he said. “All expert evaluations are underway.”

Western military officials, speaking on background, disagreed, identifying the weapon as an intermediate-range ballistic missile. “But it is a new type we have been tracking.”

The weapon, containing multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRV), detonated over Dnipro at approximately 5 a.m. local time.

Further muddying the waters is the Russian response. No statement has been issued by either the Defense or Foreign Ministries, nor has an announcement appeared in TASS. When Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova gave her daily press briefing, she received a call from someone who could be heard telling her not to comment on potential ICBM use.

Takeaways

If Russia was using this strike as an escalation signal, it seems that a press statement would have accompanied it.

For an ICBM to have been used, Russia would have had to have warned the US; otherwise, it could have been mistaken as a nuclear strike. The odds of that being kept quiet, particularly during a presidential transition period, seem small. So having US officials go out on a limb to label the missile as something other than an ICBM, if one was launched, makes no sense.

Russia routinely uses nuclear-capable cruise missiles fired from strategic bombers, so even if it is an ICBM, it doesn't represent a material step in escalation beyond the emotive effect.

There is no doubt Russia is not happy about having its supply depots, factories, and troop concentrations hit by ATACMS (see Ukraine Launches First Missile Attack Using New Authority From Biden, Putin Responds in Typical Putin Way) and British Storm Shadow missiles (Ukraine fires British Storm Shadow missiles into Russia for first time).

Right now, Vladimir Putin is doing a creditable imitation of Sheriff Bart escaping from the outraged townspeople in "Blazing Saddles." The only advantage his nuclear arsenal provides him is convincing the credulous, the simps, and Jake Sullivan that he "can" use it. In reality, using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine would create problems for Putin that even Donald Trump's negotiating skills could not solve.

Putin Warns of Missile Strikes Beyond Ukraine, Cites Rising Tensions With NATO

Quote:Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Thursday that Moscow has tested a new intermediate-range missile during a strike on Ukraine and warned it could be used against countries supplying missiles to Kyiv. The comments were part of a televised address following escalating tensions between Russia and Western nations over Ukraine.

Putin claimed the strike was in retaliation for recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory using U.S. and British-made missiles. He further warned that U.S. air defense systems would be ineffective against Russia’s new missile capabilities.

“We will issue advance warnings if further strikes are planned to allow civilians to evacuate,” Putin stated, emphasizing the missile’s precision and power.

Putin’s announcement came shortly after Ukrainian officials reported an overnight missile strike on the city of Dnipro, which damaged an industrial site and a rehabilitation center for people with disabilities, wounding two people. Ukraine alleged the attack involved an intercontinental ballistic missile, but U.S. officials later identified it as an intermediate-range missile launched from Russia’s Astrakhan region near the Caspian Sea.

“Today, our crazy neighbor once again showed what he really is—and how afraid he is,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, condemning the attack.

This week, tensions reached new heights as the Biden administration approved Ukraine’s use of longer-range U.S.-supplied missiles to strike deeper inside Russian territory. Ukrainian forces reportedly launched several of these missiles into Russia earlier in the week, drawing an angry response from Moscow.

In response, Putin signed a revised nuclear doctrine allowing for the potential use of nuclear weapons in retaliation against conventional attacks supported by nuclear-capable nations. The broad language of the doctrine leaves Russia’s commitment to a nuclear response intentionally ambiguous.

Western nations, including the U.S., criticized the doctrine as “irresponsible nuclear rhetoric” and condemned Russia’s deployment of thousands of North Korean troops to assist in its war against Ukraine.

On Thursday, Russia also targeted Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih, wounding 26 people and causing extensive damage to residential buildings, an administrative office, and civilian vehicles, according to regional officials.

Putin issued a stark warning that continued Western support for Ukraine could escalate the conflict further, saying such moves effectively place Russia and NATO at war.

As missile strikes continue and threats of nuclear escalation loom, the conflict shows no signs of de-escalation, with both sides digging in for a prolonged and increasingly dangerous standoff.

RE: Russia May or May Not Have Launched a Non-Nuclear ICBM at Ukraine
World War 3? Russia Threatens to Strike US Missile Defense Base in Poland

Quote:On Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova made remarks that can only be seen as a threat of a possible Russian strike at a U.S. missile defense base in Poland, a NATO member nation. This would, obviously, represent a serious escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Russia has threatened to attack a new US defense base in Poland with “advanced weapons” — just hours after reportedly launching an intercontinental ballistic missile at Ukraine on Thursday.

Moscow leveled the warning after saying the opening of the ballistic missile defense base, located in the town of Redzikowo near the Baltic coast, would lead to an increase in overall nuclear danger.

“Given the nature and level of threats posed by such Western military facilities, the missile defense base in Poland has long been added to the list of priority targets for potential destruction, which, if necessary, can be executed with a wide range of advanced weapons,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

There is some evasive language here; Zakharova seems to be carefully phrasing this as a possibility rather than an imminent threat. Even so, this should be taken seriously; any strike on Poland, as a NATO nation, would result in NATO's direct involvement - including the United States.

The US base at Redzikowo, which opened Nov. 13, is part of a broader NATO missile shield — known as “Aegis Ashore” — that can intercept short- to intermediate-range ballistic missiles, according to the alliance.

“This is another frankly provocative step in a series of deeply destabilizing actions by the Americans and their allies in the North Atlantic Alliance in the strategic sphere,” Zakharova said of the base’s opening.

“This leads to undermining strategic stability, increasing strategic risks and, as a result, to an increase in the overall level of nuclear danger.”

It's not as provocative and destabilizing as invading Ukraine, of course.

Because of the NATO involvement, any actual such attack would seem unlikely. A Russian strike on an American base in a NATO member nation would be a major escalation, resulting in a major war in eastern Europe between NATO and Russia - even with possible involvement by North Korean forces already in Russia. That would be a conflict Russia is ill-prepared for.

Poland also released a statement:

Poland stressed that the base does not pose a threat and does not hold nuclear missiles.

“It is a base that serves the purpose of defense, not attack,” said Pawel Wronski, Poland’s foreign ministry spokesperson.

“Such threats will certainly serve as an argument to strengthen Poland’s and NATO’s air defenses, and should also be considered by the United States.”

Likely, Russia is just putting out some gaseous emanations; attacking NATO wouldn't be in Russia's best interests, and Tsar Vladimir I surely knows this. But the Ukraine conflict is dragging on, seemingly without end, and is in danger of devolving into a high-tech version of the Great War - a war of attrition that will just continue to bleed both sides with little hope of a military resolution.

Under Article 5 of the NATO charter, an attack on any NATO nation would be considered an attack on all NATO nations.

That could result in a World War 3 scenario. That makes any such Russian action seem even less likely - but if they do strike a base in a NATO country, buckle up.

RE: Russia May or May Not Have Launched a Non-Nuclear ICBM at Ukraine
The biggest threat to Russia right now is a handful of 3 decade old Storm Shadow/SCALP/ATACMS missiles. They cant even stop those. These all have a range of 200-350 miles. The last thing they are interested in is tangling with NATO---owner of the worlds largest most modern air force in the world and armed with an array of much more modern weapons with much longer ranges than anything the Russians are currently facing. Russia isnt going to nuke anyone---because they will either get a massive conventional response from NATO or Ukraine will crack open a Russian nuclear power plant just to give Putin a heads up that you dont need nukes to launch a nuclear retaliation. Not to mention both India and China have told Putin they lose their alliance if Russia uses nukes.

No---Russia would likely strike back in other ways. Cutting deep sea internet/comms cables/pipelines. Maybe cyber attacks. Most likely, they would just give their proxies better weapons. Though they dont have a lot of weapons to spare---they could still cause problems. My guess is giving anti-ship missiles to the Iranians---who would likely hand some over to the Houthies. The Russians can afford to give away some of those as they have lots of them and anti-ship missiles are pretty worthless in their war with Ukraine.

Russia Did Not Fire an ICBM Today, They Fired Something Much Worse – A Message

Quote:Despite the diminutive Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy jumping around and shouting about Russians firing an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) today, they didn’t. Instead, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided his response to the U.S-led NATO group firing missiles into the Russian Federation would be to send a message with a multi-warhead intermediate range hypersonic missile. {Background Message Context}

President Vladimir Putin said, “one of the newest Russian medium-range missile systems was tested in combat conditions, in this case with a ballistic missile in non-nuclear hypersonic edition.” The missile has a range of approximately 3,500 kilometers, below the threshold for the “Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT), that’s a reach throughout western Europe and the hypersonic message is likely, ‘you have no iron dome system that can prevent this.”

KYIV, Nov 21 (Reuters) – Russia fired a hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile at the city of Dnipro on Thursday in response to the U.S. and UK allowing Kyiv to strike Russian territory with advanced Western weapons, in a further escalation of the 33-month-old war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a televised address, said Moscow struck a Ukrainian military facility with a new ballistic missile known as “Oreshnik” (the hazel) and warned that more could follow.

“A regional conflict in Ukraine previously provoked by the West has acquired elements of a global character,” Putin said in an address to the nation carried by state television after 8 pm Moscow time (1700 GMT).

A U.S. official said that Washington was pre-notified by Russia shortly before its strike, while another said they had briefed Kyiv and other close allies in recent days to prepare for the possible use of such a weapon.

Regardless of its classification, the latest strike highlighted rapidly rising tensions in the past several days.

Ukraine fired U.S. and British missiles at targets inside Russia this week despite warnings by Moscow that it would see such action as a major escalation. (read more)

The U.S, U.K and NATO war alliance, are desperate to provoke Vladimir Putin into expanded engagement prior to President-elect Donald Trump taking office. The NATO members, sans Biden, previously met in Brussels after the U.S. election to organize a strategy to Trump-proof their efforts.

Increasingly, it looks like Great Britain will lead the provocation effort, with full support of the U.S. war machine. We previously said to watch Moldova closely, because that strategic position would be the most likely place of western political influence to provoke Russia.

Indeed, as things are starting to unfold with increased urgency stimulated by the U.S. election outcome, now we see the U.K entering a new agreement for military defense of Moldova being prepositioned. Just today:

U.K Govt – […] A new UK-Moldova Defence and Security Partnership has also been launched today, building on extensive cooperation between the two countries and strengthening Moldovan resilience against external threats. This partnership will bolster support for the sovereignty, security and stability of Ukraine, helping to strengthen national security at home in the face of increasing Russian aggression.

[…] Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: Moldova is a vital security partner for the UK, which is why to reinforce their resilience against Russian aggression and to keep British streets safe, I am deepening cooperation on irregular migration and launching a new Defence and Security Partnership.

With Ukraine next door, Moldovans are constantly reminded of Russia’s oppression, imperialism and aggression. (Source)

As the design of the strategy appears to be unfolding, Great Britain – with U.S. covert operational support, will position themselves inside Moldova. NATO troops are already on the ground there, much to the anxiety of the average Moldovan.

The intellectually honest people of Moldova, using the reference point of prior activity by the U.S in Ukraine, clearly see themselves being set up as cannon fodder for western military usefulness. The GB/CIA/NATO team appear likely to use the geography of Moldova to provoke Russia into some form of response.

The U.K can then declare their troops under attack, and NATO can respond with mutual defense of the U.K pact, via Moldova.

The baseline for the continued need to avoid any cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, is financial. Blackrock and JPMorgan have exclusive rights to the “rebuilding” of Ukraine, with access to all the resources therein. {Link} Thus, there is an alignment of interests between Blackrock, JPMorgan, NATO the U.S. State Dept. and the internal operatives of the Biden administration.

At the same time, the Deep State (those who control Biden), the Intelligence Community, in combination with the anti-Trump DOJ-NSD (National Security Division), are using the increased hostility to bait President-Elect Trump into saying something contradictory about current U.S-NATO policy; a Logan Act violation.

So far President Trump has remained quiet, as the provocation against our peaceful interests are ongoing. For his part, Vladimir Putin has remained reserved and careful in his response; however, as U.S/NATO missiles continue to land inside the Russian Federation, there is concern that Putin’s restrained responses may indeed escalate.

We hope there are backchannels between Moscow and Mar-a-Lago; however, without any doubt the IC is looking to intercept any communication that might possibly be taking place. Everyone in/around the orbit of President Trump likely has Nat/Sec surveillance on them.

The industrial war machine is attempting to defend itself against any peace effort.

‘Troublesome’ is an understatement.

Frankly, if Biden was smart (which he is not), he'd immediately authorize Trump to act as a US peace envoy---thus allowing Trump to mediate peace talks in Ukraine without violating US law.

They don’t have any. They haven’t had the ability to produce weapons since 2022 when our sanctions took effect.

Who said 3 day war? The American media. They are the only ones.

You’re quoting your own disinformation to prove a point nobody else ever made.

Many of the nazis have been annihilated. Most were so gung ho they were the first ones in the line of fire. Hundreds more starved to death or died of infections while hiding in the basement of an old factory. Their ideology lives on, as it lived on from WW2 until today.

It’s hard to believe as much time as you’ve spent in Ukraine, Russia, and other post Soviet states you aren’t aware of their existence. One can see them anywhere on the streets of any large city. You must have been walking around with your eyes closed man.
