It wouldn't surprise me that Belichick is more a 1yr interim HC to see if he stacks up to Saban in any way as a pro coach dropping down to college. That drop in buyout screams early exit if things don't go well if it's true.

Screams easy out either way. If Belichick hates it he can pull the plug too.

I don’t know how true it is, but I heard he was wanting to get his son a coach in waiting role there. That could play a big factor in the numbers too.

He'll be bringing his son in. What position he will fill has yet to be announced. I think what you're seeing is UNC really getting serious about the new era of professional college football. Belichick is a decorated pro coach who can recruit without having to go glad hand and suck up much, because he's a repeated Super Bowl winner. They've already hired a true GM to handle personnel and money. He's already gotten commitments on pay for his assistants and NIL money to recruit with before he signed.

For years UNC has had a reputation for doing more with less. Some of that is living on the reputation of being THE state school, some on academics. Their facilities are a notch below a lot of others. They're hiring a guy that they can market in partnership with big sponsors and get the NIL money flowing. I don't think Bill stays more than two or three years, but he can go a long way to getting that program set up and moving in the right direction.
