and "flashy" with dilfer is relative. he was the worst qb to ever win a super bowl, one of the least liked espn personalities, and was already in trouble for almost fighting a student at Lipscomb. to call that flashy is stretching reality a bit.
MI seems to fall for used car salesmen a lot.
Because early on, he built his career on "Peyton had his hands up my butt for four years." Basking in the reflected glow of celebrity was ingrained early.
And let us never forget the immortal Frank Cuervo. Who's probably still listed on the department directory.
The Dueling Dragon analysis is cogent and on target. Unlike Fumbles, who is neither.

Never have I heard a basketball coach promote and tell people to go to another school instead of their own school. He is the highest paid employee of UAB. That should be a fireable offense.
I do not want UAB PR in a knife fight with Dilfer on a national stage. We'll not come out well.
Well we're not exactly setting the woods on fire now. I think we'll get the benefit of the doubt given the data we've seen
I'm talking about Dilfer's forked, silver tongue that landed him the job in the first place. You think he won't use his platform to air all of UAB's dirty laundry?
That would be a good thing...we need it aired
Yeah...but many of the things Dilfer could air could be crippling to us. How many real donors we have. How much is available in NIL. The real handicaps that any coach is going to face re: UAB admin & BOT. Things that are bad and need fixing, but he could blow that bridge to smithereens for both him and future recruits/coaches. You know the FBS schools in this state would love to have his ammo when going after potential UAB commits.
I mean to say, there are many people who could do that, but Dilfer has the ego and no reason to give a ****. Ingram avoids people now. I guarantee Dilfer would stand up in front of the Green & Gold room if invited because he believes he's bulletproof (you know, "figureitoutism")

Frank Cuervo is now the AD at Arkansas Little Rock. Feel sorry for all the folks that work under him. He is one of the worst humans that I ever encountered.
Nothing new so didn't think it needed its own thread.
Quote:With the football program, when you’re going through a struggling season, as an AD do you look at a season after it fully plays out to judge the season or make assessment as it goes?
“Yeah, well, we always evaluate our coaches at the end of every season regardless of the sport. We sit down with the coach. But we're in constant communication during the year. It's not like we don't talk all year and then at the end of the season we have a conversation. You know I have the privilege of seeing how hard these guys work every day. I was really glad, not for the obvious reasons of getting the win against Tulsa, but I was glad that our fans got to see the team perform the way that they did because that's the way they perform in practice. And I think Trent said that in the press conference and it's accurate. In the same way that he said, I was glad for the players and for the coaches that that the result showed up on Saturday, not just Monday through Thursday. And I was glad our fans were able to see that too. That's been something that we've been able to see all along that has not shown up on Saturday. I'm thrilled for that and and we still got a lot of football to play with Trent.”
With Trent Dilfer, considering his win-loss record and struggles on the field, have you still seen some of the things that you saw when you hired him?
“Yeah, he's incredibly transparent. He's taken our team out to the community service things without cameras and fanfare. Taking them over to Parker High School and done things around the community to really help teach and educate our team as young people. As an educator, (he) would like to evolve the players into great citizens and productive young men. He's made academics a really high priority for them and really overemphasized getting a degree and the importance of that degree. And those are things that he talked a lot about. So he has done all those things that he said he would do, which I value and think are very important.”

EXACTLY! Clark's teams did community service but you didn't see them flaunt at every moment like "look at us were doing good service every week". They got to flaunt championship rings.
We’re about to prove we’re the last team that should’ve been considered to be taken by the AAC. We should’ve fired Dilfer before all of our conference peers.
how in the heck are any of these schools going to sell a coach on their program when half the league fired its coach?
(This post was last modified: 11-24-2024 10:47 AM by UABFAN23.)
If we beat Charlotte next week, the only 3 games we won were against teams that either eventually fired their coach (Tulsa) or teams that fired their coach (Rice and Charlotte).
Wilson had the same records 7-16 as Dilfer and was hired at the same year. So all these other AAC coaches that were hired the same year as Dilfer were fired in the middle of the season. IF Ingram does not fire him at the end of the year, then we all need to email, call, and honestly protest.
Dec 2 is the 10 year anniversary of Watts eliminating football (and rifle and bowling). We all need to organize a protest if Dilfer is still UAB's coach by then.
I enjoyed listening to that. Good information on players and the overall situation in the evolving world of college football regarding players in the portal.

Unless he resigns, there will be no change at head coach. If he refuses to make staff changes, that could change.
Is it the coordinators that are the problem or the HC meddling with the coordinators the problem? I personally would make coordinator changes but it is something to think about. Change both OC & DC and HCTD overrides them next season.
