The WAC needs double digits wins if they are going to try and claim a top ten conference spot.

ACU is finally tall again. Went to the team workout and dinner and was really impressed. Of course until the team plays real games who knows if they are going to be very strong. Athletically, they were very impressive.

WOW! We looked HORRIBLE in our debut against SMU. Granted, SMU looks like they've got a vastly improved team, and we were down to six players due to injury (4 of 5 starters), but still, we looked awful. BuBu Benjamin and Nick Krass showed up to play, but the rest of team couldn't even play fundamental Basketball. Couldn't pass. Couldn't shoot. Couldn't play D. Couldn't hit layups. Most disheartening, we didn't even hustle and give the effort we've come to expect from a BCG coached team. Plus, once again we have NO SIZE, which we know by now is a requirement to win the WAC!

I expect SMU to be in the top portion of the bottom half of the ACC. The traditional blue bloods in Duke, UNC, Miami, NCST, Louisville and Virginia to be ahead of the Mustangs. They will compete against everyone else.

HPU was a good opener for us. We will have to have our A-game for Middle Tennessee.

Until we get our 4 others starters back, we will be hard pressed to win a game. It was so bad I cut it off after we were outscored 29-3 in theh first half after getting the first 5 points. I am anxious to see what we can do with our real starting 5 as opposed to what we are starting with at the moment.

Coach Gillespie was a complete butthole during his postgame interview tonight. I know he hates losing and his team is at a great disadvantage, but there is no reason to take it out Tarleton’s PxP Kyle Crews. Very disappointing.

We did not have an answer to Louisiana Tech's 6'11" player, Batcho. He is a fifth year sernior. Two years ago he started at Texas Tech, but transferred to Louisiana Tech last year. He is good offensively and defensively.

ACU has too many new faces. The scrimmage was indeed an honest peek into where we are currently. I was only able to catch the 2nd half since I focused on the football game first. Still, MT was too much. We couldn't hit our shots, even when open, and struggled to play the aggressive defense we are used to. We will have to see how the season progresses.

RE: 2024-25 WAC MEN'S BASKETBALL WEEK #1
I gave up my “coveted” season tickets 4 years ago, after some not so good years previously. 12 -15 new players every year, middle of the pack finishes, not recruiting big men to compete in the WAC. Lots of things. Last year was pretty good, but it was a fluke, with a substitute coach. Even with guys getting healthy, I don’t expect much from Tarleton this year. But we’ve got a “$40 mil” budget now. So we should be at the top of the standings next year right? Nobody in the WAC can compete with that. It’s all autobids and deep runs now?

RE: 2024-25 WAC MEN'S BASKETBALL WEEK #1
Our lack of size is a real problem that isn't going away. We have not had a player over 6'7 since D2 under Lonn Reisman. 5 years now of trying to play "Hoosiers" and hustle our way to wins. It's burning guys out and leading to unnecessary injuries before the season even begins. Every single year we start the season without our best guys due to injury. Injuries that were sustained during BCGs infamous close door practices. What we've had over the past 5 years has been fun to watch but it is NOT WINNING by Tarleton Basketball standards. That is largely due to our guys being overworked and undersized. They are undersized, so they are overworked in an effort to overcome lack of size. It is the definition of insanity. You cannot win in the WAC without size. Period.
