That said, this team has surprised me before in good and bad ways, so we’ll.

That's true. We do have a rest advantage, home advantage, and scouting advantage, since we've been able to focus solely on them since Wednesday.

That being said nothing really surprises me anymore with this group of players and this coach.

Another thing that has gone overlooked is that we don't have much depth at all. We only have 8 legitimate players, since the serial quitter left us. Yax was getting into foul trouble a lot earlier in the season. If that starts to happen again, will we be able to win without our super star?

Yax and CC down to Big Brad is already a big drop off. Yax and CC down to Shaver or Myles or whoever else is a cataclysmic cliff of a drop off in talent and ability.

I think our guard/small forward depth is pretty good, but we really only have 3 big men, and one of them is a waif. That will probably bite us hard sooner or later.

Update on KenPom’s top five AAC players:

Haggerty, Memphis
Lendeborg, UAB
Lorient, North Texas
Mashburn, Temple
Dainja, Memphis

Lendeborg, Lorient, and Dainja are all 6-9. Haggerty and Mashburn are guards, and both have scored in double figures every game. Mashburn is playing lights out!

UNT beating temple by 11 at home. I honestly think they may be the best team in the conference right now.

The ladies survived in OT. 2nd half was ugly. Molly made some key defensive plays and baskets when we were in droughts to not let the game get out of hand. Sara picked up some weight on the offensive side too.

Wichita choked that game away. It was theirs to win. They looked like us with a big lead - it was hard to watch.

Gonna be tougher without McGhee. Memphis will go Zone to collapse on the bigs. Andy will have Yax play as a point forward, which will lead to rebounding issues(less second chance shots). Toney, Butta, AJ gotta hit when they take outside shots.

Funny stat: I saw Tyren Moore is 55% from 3 on the road

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
To illustrate just how embarrassingly, fire-the-AD, bad our OOC schedule was - as were our losses against said terrible competition...

I was playing around on barttorvik just now.

I simulated UAB winning out the rest of the regular season, and winning the conference tournament - playing FAU, Temple, and Memphis. Our projected NET at 27-7 is only 77.

Even simulating in 2-3 losses, our NET is only projected for around 50.

Even though our abysmal start should never be swept under the rug or rationalized away, the AD and Coach AK hamstrung this team from the start. Are we even trying to be a big time program? I thought AK believed in the Bartow Standard. This piss poor schedule was not the Bartow Standard. Losing so much with that poor schedule is not even the Ehsan standard.

Be better. That schedule should never happen again, or why are we even wasting our time?

AK made the schedule within the parameters he was given. That said it’s still on AK. Plan backfired. I don’t think you will see any OOC HHs west of the Mississippi and within a certain radius until we have a new AD or he is told to spend more money.

Samford went to Cornell, Arizona, and Michigan state. I don’t believe all three of these teams would have refused to play us, and if samford can do it, and we can’t, we have huge problems.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
Last season they played at Purdue, at VCU, and hosted Belmont due to a 4 game H&H

Year before that they played at Depaul(even they were really bad it's still a big east team) and at UCF. I can go on and on when it comes to their scheduling under Bucky. Yes, they've hosted their fair share of D2/NAIA games but those away games certainly cross those out

It helps a lot when the AD and Coach are on the same page like they are at Samford, hell the president goes to every game. When Mark is gone we should look into Newton as new AD

That kind of goes to my point I was making with my post about the numbers.

If we can’t schedule to the level of Samford, why are we even playing? Why did we join the AAC? Why do we make the appearance of trying to be a real program, if it’s all just window dressing?
