PJ Haggerty with 27 points, or 40% of the Memphis points. Of course Atin Wright had zero points for NT.
UNT is legit. They set up a good coaching pipeline and always recruit well to their system.
I’m ok with Memphis holding the stop spot if that helps us stay in contention with everyone else for a double bye. We really need to be top 4.
A three-point loss to UNT on the road off a desperation last-second three wouldn't have bothered me much at all but for the 18 point lead we blew. Again. And yes. Memphis needs to keep winning. Let them beat everybody, and maybe we can steal one at home from them. That's the best path. But it requires us to avoid, for the first time in years, playing every other game to the level of the competition.
Yep I Agree. A 3 point loss to UNT on the road is not a bad loss. Hell, if you just told me the final score without knowing the context, I would've likely been happy/content.
To know that we blew a big lead, after scoring more points on them in a half than anyone this season, completely changes things.

Keep Haggerty in front of you - force him (and the rest of the team) to shoot from outside the lane. I'm concerned about this as we have trouble actually guarding that type of player.

Yep...it was basically the inverse of last year's game in Denton. If I remember correctly, we were down around 17, took our first lead in OT, and stole one. It's the new UTEP rivalry for us. A realllllllly good shot kept us from seeing another OT game.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
Arkansas State lost last Saturday at James Madison, 67-62. The Red Wolves are now 11-4 and 2-1, with a KenPom rating of 94.
In the second half of the UAB game, #6 Taryn Todd and #8 Kobe Julien scored at will. Todd finished with 31 points and Julien with 25 points.
Kobe Julien hasn’t played since the UAB game. I’m not sure why.

He's needed extensive rest after roasting our azzes in the second half. Tired himself out.

Four of the next five games are on the road. UAB will be underdogs at FAU, at USF, and at Memphis.
Prior to tonight’s win over Tulane (176), UAB’s best win was over …….
….
….
….
Southeastern Louisiana (234).

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
Tulsa won, on the road!
Tulsa 82 - UTSA 77
Tulsa trailed by 9 at halftime.
Primo Spears had 40 points and 5 assists for UTSA.
Who is Primo Spears? He is a 6-3 185 senior.
Freshman year - Duquesne - started every game, but one, as a freshman! In his last three games he scored 25, 34, and 30 points respectively.
Sophomore year - Georgetown - started every game with high points total of 37 against #15 Xavier.
Junior year - Florida State - didn’t start a single game, but scored in double figures 17 times.
Senior year - UTSA - has started every game, with scoring average of 22.4/game, which includes the 40 points tonight.

I looked up primo as well; and wondered how the hell does a guy that good end up at UTSA?! And how is UTSA still that bad with a player like that.

Primo is like one of 5 former players suing Leonard Hamilton over broken promises.
You have to think teams would outbid UTSA so it's a bit strange that he ended up there.

AK got a pledge from McGhee way back in Dec 2022, which pretty much made AK uninterested in finding a point guard in the 23 or 24 class.
We pretended EG was one for the time being. Now we pretend that London isn’t another combo guard

Yeah pretty hilarious some think SL is a PG. He'll he does even play PG at Hoover Jared Fairley does (sorry kid if I misspell your name).
I remember it Moore vs Spears I was wishing Spears but we got Moore. Not against Moore as I think he should start here. Like a stated that JuCo list trash.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
Games on Saturday 11 January 2025
USF 70 @ Tulane 73
Temple 73 @ Rice 70
ECU 70 @ Memphis 74
Wichita State 75 @ UTSA 88.
Wichita State has lost five of their last seven games. They had a 19-point win over Kansas State and then somebody called Friends. Otherwise it’s been several double-digit losses. This loss to UTSA was their worst game of the season to date.

Gutting it out during Winning Time is gonna make or break you in terms of seeding. A good finish in Denton and we and Mempiss are alone at the top of the table. Gonna be a lot of parity here…I think 11-7 may actually be good enough for the 4 seed.

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
Vermont 53 @ Bryant 73. Vermont’s KenPom is 236. Ugh!
High Point is now at 99.
Longwood 76 @ Winthrop 95. Longwood 198.
Northern Iowa 85 @ Illinois State 84. Illinois State 146.
Jacksonville State 64 @ Middle TN 81. Middle TN 122.
Arkansas State 84 @ Troy 78. Arkansas State’s only lead in the second half came during the last minute. Arkansas State’s KenPom improves to 95. First game back for Kobe Julien, after missing last four.
UAB’s worst loss remains the home loss to Vermont. What a way to start the season! Second worst loss was to Longwood.
Most heartbreaking losses were to Illinois State, Arkansas State, and North Texas.
Best win - Tulane. Tulane’s KenPom is only 174. Jeepers!

RE: UAB Basketball, Rankings, and Scores
The biggest surprise so far in AAC play, IMHO, is Wichita State at 0-3. The Shockers started the season off at 6-0 with a KenPom rating of 73. Then they got shellacked by Florida, 88-51. They have gone 4-6 since that perfect start. Their KenPom has plummeted to 137.
It’s not just the Florida game! They have lost by double digits to DePaul, Kansas City, USF, and UTSA as well.
