I’m posting here for information purposes what I posted on the other Board.

One measure of the health of a program and, by extension, a league is how long coaches stay at a school. It is certainly not the only measure. As with any marriage, if a coach stays a long time, it’s an indicator that both sides are happy with the arrangement, Coach K being the classic example - especially since he had opportunities to go the the NBA and turned them down. If a program has frequent turnover of coaches, it suggests that something is structurally wrong.

UConn is the gold standard among Big East programs. They have had 3 coaches in the past 40 years - and counting. I’m listing the number of years that the last 3 coaches have lasted at each Big East school as a comparison, not including this year yet.

40 - UConn
35 - Creighton*
25 - Villanova
22 - Georgetown
20 - Seton Hall
18 - Maquette
18 - Providence*
12 - Butler
11 - St. John’s
11 - DePaul
8 - Xavier

*Creighton and Providence have new coaches, so there numbers could be viewed as 33 years and 16 years respectively, counting this year.[/align]

The Big East 990 is out for 7/2024-6/2025. I believe this is the last one that reports the income from the prior television deal.

https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofi...01763/full

A few highlights:

Total media deal revenue: $53,440,724 ($4,858,248 per school)
Total NCAA revenue: $25,653,053 ($2,332,095 per school)
BET revenue: $9,662,531 ($878k per school)

Per School payouts:

UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT - 8,317,521

VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY - 6,206,916

CREIGHTON UNIVERSITY - 6,047,733

ST JOHN'S UNIVERSITY - 6,009,267

XAVIER UNIVERSITY - 5,840,950

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY - 5,800,606

MARQUETTE UNIVERSITY - 5,660,250

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE - 5,472,869

BUTLER UNIVERSITY - 5,274,073

SETON HALL UNIVERSITY - 5,047,406

DEPAUL UNIVERSITY - 5,028,410

I would be very interested to understand how the per school payouts are calculated. It certainly appears that NCAA tournament success is a factor, but that can't be the complete picture. For example, why is Georgetown earning so much?

I was listening to the postgame stuff and Bridges referred to Hart and Brunson as his brothers. I later found out that Hart and Brunson were college roommates and have been best friends ever since. Team chemistry is one thing, but these 3 have a special bond unlike anything I think I’ve seen in pro sports. I think it has something to do with why they won it all the other night.

Team chemistry is one thing, but these 3 have a special bond unlike anything I think I’ve seen in pro sports. I think it has something to do with why they won it all the other night.

The NCAA prez, powers that be, and their financial gurus, decided to expand the NCAA tournament last week. The org is in dire financial straits. Expansion along with a nullification of the ban on alcohol-related advertising are seen as the fix to financial shortfalls.

Good move? Or not? I posted my take on the topic.

Thought we could dump some scheduling news in a singular thread.

Marquette has a home/home scheduled with Michigan (traveling to Ann Arbor this year, hosting Wolverines following year). We also have another Chicago game at the United Center against Missouri in November.

Saw UConn is also going to be playing Michigan in Boston this year, and will also be traveling to Chicago to play Illinois at the UC in December.

Any other high-level matchups that have been scheduled non-con?

Who or What does the Big East look for in it's next Commissioner?

This is one of the most interesting storylines that is flying under the radar.

With all of the changes looming in college sports, what does the Big East need at the Commissioner spot to stay among the haves and not get relegated?

Interestingly enough, the Big East has been churning out Conference commissioners for other conferences, like the WCC (Stu Jackson) and the A10 (Dan Leibovitz).

Do they need a media person? Do they need someone who is entrenched in the culture of autonomy? Do they need a high-profile basketball name? Do they need a lawyer?

What if the Big East hired someone who is all of that? Personally, I think Jay Bilas could be very good in this role.
