Well, he now has his opening, and he's not to shy to take it. Let's hope the Bushes and Rove are no longer part of his posse. If they are, he will end up being basically as worthless as the RINOs in the Senate he accuses. And that brief stupid stunt about having his f-in wife run for gov of Fl was as stupid as having Graham's sister run for the open seat vacated by her brother's death in SC. American Citizens aren't interested in dynasties and noble classes. So let's not hear abut any Trump children running either. Ron, don't f--- it up. And Ted, no, we don't want you either. You missed your chance to be on the SCOTUS. Don't compound that. Go for TX governor in 4 years instead, but don't run for Prez. JD indicated earlier this year he might not run due to a young family and his wife's distaste. Now, that decision is easier. Even Rubio will be tied to Trump if he runs. An outsider (is DeSantis really one, or is he a return to the Bush-failure cronyism and RINO fake conservatives that led us to this mess and did nothing to advance the conservative agenda in the Senate?) will be the best option. Ron did govern FL well, and stood up to the RINOS and Democrats in his state. Was that just an act after he lost to Trump? Let's hope not. Donalds obviously a better governor than DeSantis' wife. Whycome no news media really touting the historic significance in FL...well, Donalds is not their house buy.
Questions about Flock’s broader data access also raised concerns about the safety of undocumented students, particularly over who can access the information collected by the system and how it could be shared with outside law enforcement agencies.
Max Menchaca, Brown College social vice president, asked how Rice is proactively protecting undocumented students given concerns about other law enforcement agencies’ access to Flock data and the potential sharing of information with federal immigration authorities.

I presume the undocumented students at Rice would be ones who came here long ago as children and excelled in school, not the ones rushing the fences in Del Rio or driving semis. A high-school English teacher breaks down crying on camera because the high-school SENIORS in his class cannot write a SINGLE SENTENCE.

“I literally broke down in the middle of class because I’m teaching seniors,” he shared. “These kids are leaving high school and going to college, hopefully, after they finish.”

“We had two paragraphs to read, one sentence, complete, to write. I gave them the sentence stems. I basically completed the sentence for them in the model.”

"I have SENIORS that cannot read. I have SENIORS that cannot write."

My gosh...

“These are 17 and 18-year-old kids, and they couldn’t fill in four words. Four words.”

“I gave them the scenario. We annotated together. I gave them the answers before we even had the problem.”

“And they couldn’t do it.”

“I don’t know. I simply don’t know where the problem is.”

“This is only day two, and I have seniors who simply cannot read and seniors who cannot write. They cannot write.”

“They could reason. They have the ability to defend their reasoning if it’s talking to their homeboy, but applying that to a written text, two paragraphs, they couldn’t do it.”

“Our young Black men, our young brown men, our young Black girls, and our young brown girls. Oh God.”
On one hand, there are those who will say that the shooter even had a gun shows the need for more gun control - especially if it turns out he got the gun legally.
OTOH, the fact that an armed civilian saved lives is a point on the other side.

The Florida Legislature approved a new congressional map intended to maximize Republicans’ advantage in the state as part of the national redistricting battle that President Donald Trump launched ahead of this year’s midterms.

The vote came just two days after Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled his proposal and the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court rolled back a key provision of the Voting Rights Act. The decision could make it harder for Democrats to challenge Republican efforts to redraw congressional districts in ways that limit the influence of nonwhite voters.

DeSantis’ map could increase Republicans’ advantage in Florida’s House delegation to 24 to 4, up from the current split of 20 to 8. The potential four-seat gain is the same as what Virginia Democrats expect from a recent redistricting referendum, which is being challenged in state court there.

With today's 6-3 SCOTUS ruling on the unconstitutionality of using race to gerrymander districts, it's gonna be interesting to see how redraws and districts are affected. A lot of variables affecting this years' Midterms, and no one on either side really knows how things will shake out at this point.

It is totally blowing my mind. I have always wished that I knew how to code and a few times I actually started some self-learning but life got in the way.

I have been messing around with building apps/websites with Claude and I can't believe what it can do. I'm wondering if the final products on these apps that people are building with these tools will stand the test of time or will collapse with a myriad of bugs that prove unworkable.

Considering Race in Redistricting

I struggle with this... and wonder what others think.

From a logical perspective, it seems quite simple. When the founders designed the system, they stipulated only that population be the determinant for the size of districts.... so I think logically (there is more to it than this) that the court will determine that race should play NO part in apportionment.

However, there are all sorts of excellent reasons that I can think of to ensure minority representation in government... and some serious evils that can result from their exclusion.... even though nothing in the Constitution that I see mentions this...

That said, I think any attempt to create 'safe' districts should apply to ALL minorities... which would certainly include Hispanics and Asians... but what about Muslims or Jews?? How far into the 'minority' pool are we supposed to go? And do we simply take someone's word for their ethnicity?? What race is Rachel Dolezal? Is Elon Musk African American? Is Tiger Woods Black or Asian? How can you create a 'black' safe district unless you're literally creating 'red lines' and encouraging a version of segregation?

I THINK that the solution has to be something like... allowing the state to decide whether the boundary lines for a district include things like the Bayou, I-10, the 610 loop or South Main Street... but not the sort of crazy lines that we far too often see. No going back and forth across that sort of boundary in order to specifically include or exclude specific addresses.

Anything else I can think of only seems to ensure battles until the end of time.

Posting directly since forum announcements are low visibility in Tapatalk normally:

If you consider yourself an Android novice .... move along, nothing to see here. Go back to reading the boards.

For those continuing on ...

Do you hate those annoying ads in Tapatalk? They're not mine. They're Tapatalk's. I don't see a dime of that.

But ... I do have a slightly dusty custom Tapatalk build just for CSNbbs without any ads whatsoever. You will get much shouting about security sideloading an app build for older Android. It will still work just fine, and when done you'll see how it's obviously just custom branded Tapatalk.

Go on ... give it a go. https://csnbbs.com/temp/csnbbs.apk

Well, Trump greenlit the hit on Iran

One of those ‘I won’t know how I feel about it until I see what happens’ things. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice

Lots of deception…. Agree with it or not, it does seem to be well planned…. Probably for a decade or more…. I hope they really got it…. Like battling cancer. I think the key here was the lack of meaningful ‘pushback’ from anyone else in the region.

I hope we don’t get in to nation building, but obviously we can’t have their military, in deep cahoots with the religious zealots, so not a good alternative. There has been talk about the return of the Shah, and that Iranians really want to put Sharia law behind them….. but that of course remains to be seen

I wonder if any of our recent ‘friends’ in the Middle East will be willing to take the lead so that we can step back completely.

I guess we will see what happens ‘tonight’, which I guess means tomorrow afternoon or so here?

A few, especially leaders within the Democrat party already calling for impeachment…. As if this is the first time a President has dropped tons of bombs without Congressional approval. Sorry…. Just ridiculous. If someone wants to feel this is wrong, that’s fine… I get that and can’t say I 100% disagree…. But I can’t remember how many times I. My life people have made this argument from both sides.

Is America more innovative or better at research than it was 25 years ago? Just the opposite: Universities have fat endowments and thousands of highly-paid administrators, but their actual work is less impressive by the day.
Not only that, but campuses have embraced ideological poisons like DEI and critical race theory that are a death sentence for authentic science. And of course, every year brings another 4-5% hike in tuition.
