RE: ESPN: Big Ten's Media Contracts, NBC, November Night Games
I tend to agree with "Lurker" above, in that IMO this is a bigger deal than many in the thread are treating it as.

IMO, this isn't just about playing a few November games. The way I interpret the article, the B1G doesn't even have a completed media deal, when this forum assumed, based on media reports, that this was all signed/sealed/delivered months ago. At this moment, there is no deal.

Also, just a day or two ago, I was one of those lauding the B1G for "controlling its own ship" or something like that, with regard to media rights, in contrast to say the SEC, which is controlled by ESPN. But it turns out that the BTN, which is majority-owned by FOX, actually controls the B1G media rights, and apparently out to around 2030. And that's why FOX was sitting at the table with the B1G when it was negotiating with other networks this past year. That seemed screwy to me but this article explains it. IMO it makes the B1G's relationship with FOX much more similar to the SEC's with ESPN.

Also, I think the $65m is a big deal, as that is a hit that will (as I read it) happen right now, it's not spread out over seven years like the $7B overall deal is. It seems from the article that B1G schools are finding out they have $5m less to spend this year than they thought they did, which is a significant hit. That $65m is basically equal to this year's base CFP payout to a P5 school. Down the drain, as I understand it from the article. And apparently, it's not just $65m, that is what is known has to be paid back, the NBC November stuff has "tens of millions more" in flux.

A big deal overall, IMO, at least that's how I read the article. Maybe I am wrong about some of this?
