Or to FSU's chagrin they could be a natural #2 for Florida and the SEC, just a decade behind in development. Or they could be the next best bet for the Big 10. I'd say the expense is worth the gamble since any of those 3 scenarios improves their status.
I'd say USF is a wee bit more than a decade behind FSU (if I understand you correctly). That would imply that the Bulls will win 3 NC's, 15 major conference titles, 3 Heismans, have countless All Americans and major award winners, memorable wins in every major bowl and then some, a modern era highlight reel of epic games that stacks up against the best, etc....all by the end of this season. And don't forget those early 1900's teams if you're talking pure years played Yes I'm a FSU Homer!
Admittedly I'm playing devil's advocate here, but how long would it take them to catch up if they earned 75 million a year?
I’d put it at 40 years. Which might be beyond college football existing as a big-time event. They’re really starting from ground zero on the aforementioned. Expecting them to win a NC every decade would be wishful thinking, for starters.
I really don’t get the investment unless it’s for soccer way down the road. We don’t need more football stadiums.
They will never catch those accolades. That was a unique time with only three major Florida programs in which the rest of the country was recruiting more regionally. FSU won’t add much to those numbers either.
The point is, the Brahman have the opportunity to catch up and get close institutionally and resource-wise.
I think that’s fair. I was taking JR’s point very literally…where USF and UF become the big 2 in FL and everyone else loses the realignment lottery. I don’t expect it to play out that way, obviously.
