It's not news that the MVC schools that sponsor football have and always and will be basketball first schools. So the question as to why the Dakota schools wouldn't be needed is simply because they don't care if their football conference is weakened.
They are not actively trying to win championships in football and if there was a way to remove the Dakota schools (or to make conference changes that impacted the Dakota schools negatively) why wouldn't they want to do that? It makes their collective winning percentage go much higher without losses to the Dakota schools.

Sounds like NDSU is getting big for their britches. MVC was always a power FCS conference, long before they gave NDSU a path to Division I. SIU, Illinois St. and NIU have all been to the title game. And longtime MVC fb member, Youngstown St. had a run in the 90s that is 2nd only to NDSU's.
