That is much needed. Swinney is pretty close to the Hornets Nest among worst D1 arenas.

I agree about Swinney. However, I find it slightly troubling that even low level program seems to see an “ideal” facility as a go to move to help fix their program.

I think it’s a decent long term idea if there was no other option and it was actually necessary, but KC has multiple venues within a few miles of UMKC. They quit playing in Municipal Auditorium because they couldn’t put enough butts in seats to make it work. It seats 7,000, with about 4,500 in the lower bowl and is 6 miles from campus. A campus where most undergrads don’t live anyway. If the program doesn’t have any draw, a new arena is a lot of money to spend. Put the money into making the program good and perhaps if then attendance requires it, eventually consider this option. 7,000 is way too big, but 1,500 is too small. Let’s spend $50-100 million on a “just right” 5K arena and hope someone shows up. Try being over .500 a little more often first.

UMKC average 696 for home games in 21-22, or 9,700 home attendance for all home games combined. Good grief…
