Of those currently tied for the 8th spot, EMU has a 2-0 tie breaking record, CMU 2-1, and Miami 0-3. If Bowling Green beats EMU, will significantly hurt EMU on both the overall record as well as the tiebreaker record.

EMU (5-11): @BGSU, @NIU

CMU (5-11): VsToledo, @WMU

Miami (5-11): @WMU, @Buffalo

BGSU (4-12): VsEMU, @Ohio

WMU (3-13): VsMiami, VsCMU

Key games TUESDAY: IF EMU wins and TOL beats CMU. BG and CMU are out (I think). BG can't get to 6 wins and we hold the tie breaker over CMU if both are 6 - 12).

Then If Miami loses to UB, we're even even at 6 - 12 as we hold the tie breaker over Miami.

Anyone disagree???

The EMU-BowlingGreen game is indeed huge with regard to this 8th Seed. If EMU wins, then will eliminate both Bowling Green and WMU. However, don’t get too excited, I know BowlingGreen is on like a nine game losing streak BUT all of their games have been competitive (no blowouts). So BowlingGreen is well poised to break their losing streak at home against another struggling team such as EMU…just as EMU was poised to break their own losing streak at home against another struggling team such as WMU this week.

I just did a long post and mentioned Miggy. Should have added RamyEMU.

Miggy talked about a game Jan 3, almost 2 months ago.

RamyEMU and I are discussing what is the meaning of going through a scheduling gauntlet and a 'recency effect' (most recent games).

I predict BG will come out flat. I know the game is in BG. Senior night. But if you've been thru hell, you've been thru hell. BG has been through hoops hell.

I predict BG sees EMU on their schedule and starts licking their chops on an easy victory.

Steve makes some interesting points. One is that BG is on a 6-game losing streak against some decent MAC teams. In most games BG's offense has been decent but their defense was terrible. In many ways EMU is similar to BG, as EMU can at times score well and it's defense sucks unless opponents are just plain off as BS was in the last game.

BG did score 91-points as it beat EMU by 26-points on our home-court in the first match-up, and that is not even factoring in that BG shot few free throws as the refs were favorable to the home team, and the opposite favoritism is likely to occur at BG tonight.

Plus, EMU simply doesn't defend three's and BG has a plethora of good three-point shooters who destroyed EMU last time out by scoring 30- points on 10 made three's. Also, BG has good players who can score at the rim, and EMU does not defend the rim. No surprise that BG shot 58 percent on two's at EMU.

Does EMU have more high caliber players? I think so.

But given that EMU defensive system is so bad, I can only see EMU beating BG if he he has his players force BG shooters far out, get in their grill, and make all BG three point shooters to dribble
Or pass the ball. Will Heath do that? No way.

Nor will he have his bigs defend the rim, with one confronting any drive from the perimeter. If he does both. EmU should win. Since he's not likely to, the season for all practical purposes should end tonight.

I'm not into discussing whether the outcome depends on individual performances.

It's EMU's crappy defensive system that has made this season a nightmare. Heath would have to make major changes to win. Doubt that he'll now see the light. He could be a very good HC if he did.
