This isn’t even remotely correct. The 3 largest cable providers in the US carry the PAC12 network (Xfinity, Charter, Cox). At least one of these providers is available in every metropolitan area of the PAC12.

The P12N didn’t get carriage on DTV which was a travesty for the many NFL-first football fans in the PAC footprint who were DTV subscribers. Those people were incredibly vocal in sports forums about how they “couldn’t get the P12N” when what the he reality was that they couldn’t get the P12N and Sunday Ticket with the same provider.

Unless you were living in an apartment or condo that had a fixed provider, everybody in the PAC footprint had and has he option for getting the P12N.

I shouldn’t trivialize this last point. California, due to its insanely high real estate prices, has a uniquely large demographic of people who can afford cable tv but not home ownership and who are often locked into a specific provider. This demographic is likely trivial in a place like West Virginia with the nation’s highest rate of ownership but very low average household income, but with 30M people and only 54% ownership, very high average household income, this is a significant number of lost in-footprint subscribers. Probably more than the entire population of Utah or Oregon.
