On an island, they may not be a great addition, but you could look at a bloc with SMU/Rice. I'd agree that anything beyond two schools is dilutive and is bracing for additional defections. I think Oregon and UW need to get out of dodge before any new in-state legislation is passed to lock them up with WSU/OSU. May not be a bad idea to plan the pivot as the next G6 conference.

Adding even two schools for the PAC (except Gonzaga as a basketball only add) is dilutive. I don’t know why people don’t realize that.

Everyone realizes it, but if you do not add teams the Big 12 and/or Big are going to put an end to the PAC 12 - money is not everything in this situation.

About the bolded, I am not sure about that. IMO, there is no upside to adding low-value schools, schools that dilute the current membership, before you have to. Because I think you can always add them later.

For example, let's say the "four corners" schools leave for the Big 12 next week. leaving the PAC with just six schools. Would schools like SMU, UTSA, Air Force or Boise still join the remaining six PAC schools if invited? IMO they surely would, just the same as they would right now.

Also, IMO adding those schools right now would not prevent the four corners schools from later leaving if they are so inclined. Won't dissuade schools like Oregon or Stanford from leaving for the B1G if invited either.

IMO there is no major conference that is in a "snooze or lose" situation with backfills, and I don't think adding backfills prevents any of the older schools from leaving.

Yeah. I don't think the Four Corners are going to leave for the Big 12 unless there are further defections to the Big Ten, and even then the Pacific NW teams could move to the ACC. (Or if the ACC seriously isn't willing to invite them, which I think is highly unlikely, they could go to the Big 12 themselves.)

I've never understood why anybody except for Oregon State and Washington State would be at all interested in a move that would dilute the PAC's earnings.
