About the bolded, I am not sure about that. IMO, there is no upside to adding low-value schools, schools that dilute the current membership, before you have to. Because I think you can always add them later.

For example, let's say the "four corners" schools leave for the Big 12 next week. leaving the PAC with just six schools. Would schools like SMU, UTSA, Air Force or Boise still join the remaining six PAC schools if invited? IMO they surely would, just the same as they would right now.

Also, IMO adding those schools right now would not prevent the four corners schools from later leaving if they are so inclined. Won't dissuade schools like Oregon or Stanford from leaving for the B1G if invited either.

IMO there is no major conference that is in a "snooze or lose" situation with backfills, and I don't think adding backfills prevents any of the older schools from leaving.

Good points all, I'd say.

It's very hard to 'end' conferences anyway. If any would have gone down for the count by now, the B12 and Big East are surely two. But here they both still are, in their revenant forms.
