I actually laughed when I read this. I mean, I get it though, why bother with a SoCal school when you can go to New Orleans for a program with very little support and no history of success. And UH is already out of the Pac's reach, they've been trying to get into the big 12 for 25 years and aren't going to fumble that away at the 1 yd line.
Tulane has had far more success than SMU has had over the last 35 years (55 if you exclude cheating years). Neither is well-supported.

I'm 49 years old, and Tulane has had 12 winning records in my lifetime, counting 2022. SMU has had 18. SMU has had 3 top 10's, and 2 other top 20's, while Tulane has 2 top 10's and 1 other top 20. Tulane's all time record is 528-649-35, SMU's is 519-552-54. Neither is exactly a juggernaut, though SMU at least has the excuse of the Death Penalty and the gold trans-am. What's Tulane's excuse? More importantly, SMU has shown that in the modern era, they can be relevant in DFW. Tulane has never shown they can be relevant, at least not until this year. This year they were good and LSU has gone 21-16 in the past 3 years, but the minute LSU is relevant again Tulane will be an afterthought. If SMU is winning, they're relevant, regardless of what A&M/OU/Texas/TCU/etc are up to.

I think Tulane has done a great job - PAC should add 4 schools - SDSU, SMU, Tulane and either Rice/UTSA or Memphis. SMU and Tulane are great accademically and great cities. Every other year game in New Orleans is always fun. Dallas is 5th largest TV market and expected to be #3 within 7 to 10 years.
