I agree with the bolded part. I don't think any full member of a D1 conference has ever been kicked out. If conference bylaws changed and someone didn't meet the new rules, I could see that happening but there's little chance that's going to happen. The only examples of full members being booted were NMSU and Idaho being booted from the SBc but even then, that was a temporary membership anyway so technically they weren't booted.

Most of the time, instead of kicking someone out, several just move to another conference and leave the less desirables behind.

Media deals, conference bylaws, etc make kicking someone out almost impossible.

NMSU was kicked out of the Sunbelt. I think Idaho was as well. Temple was kicked out of the Big East and then landed in the MAC. Not sure if Tulane left on its own or was kicked out of the SEC but there have been schools that have been kicked out of conferences. Montana was in the PAC (or whatever it was called) way back when, again not sure if they were kicked out or left on their own.

As stated above, they were temporary football only members, not full members. They weren't kicked out, the agreement ran out and was not renewed because the SBC no longer needed 12 members to have a championship game.

Tulane and Sewanee left the SEC willingly because they weren't competitive and Ga Tech left because of Alabama.

Idaho and Montana were in the PCC but got left out when the rest of the PCC schools formed the PAC.

Temple was a legit full member of the Big East that got kicked out though.
