Right now TV ratings are consistent for two things - sports and politics. ESPN will do everything to keep content like bowls at the forefront. MAC schools usually struggle to register Nielsen ratings throughout the year but some low level bowl games will get > millions people watching. If ESPN decides to focus attention elsewhere it will be because the playoff has expanded enough to to dwarf bowl earnings but even then I'm not sure they will do away with things immediately.
