He should be a starter someone making starter money.

the flip side is that his part time role has kept him healthy and more likely to have a long nfl career. he's really good.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Chester Taylor got 10 years in the NFL and that converted to a lot of money. Played behind Jamal Lewis early in his career, then became a starter in Minn. and finished up as a back-up in Chicago and Arizona (1 year each). Looks like he made a total of $ 31.4M over his 10 year NFL career. Hunt was a starter as a rookie, made All-Pro, then had his incident that cost him nearly a year of lost games and salary along with a Super Bowl. From what I can see Hunt will have earned around $18.5M in the NFL through the end of this year.

Hunt's best opportunity now is to be traded where he can start and get a bigger contract for maybe 3-4 years with a nice guaranteed base. That may be tough for him to get - especially in Cleveland as a back-up to the leading rusher in the NFL. Still, there was a lot of interest in him when he was talking about a hold-out for an extension - or a trade. He's in the 2nd year of his 2 year deal that pays a base salary of $1.35M and a roster bonus of $4.9M. His next contract would likely be the last one he gets with decent money at this stage of his career. So he has to cash in and try to get it 3-4 years on the contract with decent guarantees on higher base level amounts. Chubb is getting double the money of Hunt at $12M/yr.
