NIU was a 14 seed, TT was a 3 seed. TT was favored by 14.
NIU was down the whole game, and was never close, until the last two minutes. TT missed some free throws, NIU got hot and closed to within 1 with about 2 seconds to go......Lux was very sick that day, he was bent over the whole game while playing....

The game was on national TV for the last 10 minutes or so. Back then only one channel was broadcasting and switching between games.

NIU has beaten Wisconsin TWICE in basketball. Once in the 70's, and again in the 90s at Chick Evans in one of the best games ever at the fieldhouse.
I believe parts of that game (1999?) are on youtube. That Wisconsin team coached by Dick Bennett went on to the final 4, so NIU can say they have beaten a final 4 team in basketball. For those who have not been to a game at Chick Evans, you have missed one of the great college venues in terms of fan site, and fan loudness in college basketball.
