I didn't really see anything in the article that mentions it, but I would like to know how many kids in the US are between the ages of 18-22 now and 10 years ago. I am sure that age group is smaller now. You don't see to many families with more than 3 kids anymore. When I grew up, my family had 5 kids and we were the smallest family in the neighborhood.
I also bet a lot of college eligible kids decided to take the armed forces way of life than the educational way of life which would also factor in the decline of college enrollment.
